You'll Know It When It Happens problems?
*Possible Spoilers I guess?*

I'm not sure if the quest has bugged, or if it's something I've done in game. But when I talk to Ranger Grant he doesn't say anything to me apart from needing to prepare, and my only available reply is "I need time to prepare". There's no Allison Valentine on the second floor of the visitors centre, no blood stain in the storage closet and the terminal in the visitor centre can't be interacted with. I don't want to have to lose hours of gameplay and seeing as I'm doing a Hardcore Mode playthrough to get the achievement, I don't want to have to restart.

Does anyone know what to do? I got so annoyed last night trying to do it. Loaded oldish saves, waited for 1 hour intervals, went off and did some other side quests and came back. Still nothing.

Here's the wiki link for the quest and the bug lists are at the bottom of the page, hope it helps.

Yeah I've checked the wiki. I really don't feel like doing a complete new character for hardcore mode because I planned on my next character being one that I just did everything on, including all DLC, instead of just the main quest.

I guess I'll look around and see if I can use a console command to restart the quest or something. I know that if you use commands and then close and restart the game that the Steam Achievements get enabled again.

Have you tried any of the unofficial patches?
Also, "1 hour intervals" isn't enough, you need to wait at least 3 days in another area.
You shouldn't ever have to scrap your save and start over on PC.

I have the Mission Mojave - Ultimate Edition mod that fixed loads of bugs. I wasn't aware of needing to wait at least 3 days in another area. I guess I'll load a slightly older save and do that before using any console commands then.

Waited for around 4 days in The Old Mormon Fort at 1 hour intervals and that still didn't work. Even loaded a save before I even discovered Hoover Dam. Decided to go with console commands in the end. Quest is now working fine. Thanks for the help guys.

Which console command did you use? Just in case it comes up again in the future.

Ah yeah, better share seeing as using google usually brings people to these pages. Type: prid 0013721f into the console command and then type disable, then enable. It'll disable and enable Ranger Grant and you should be able to carry on with the quest like I did. Just exit the game and restart for it to allow steam achievements. By restart I mean exit to desktop then re-launch not restart a brand new game.

For me, it was the Mission Mojave mod that was causing the glitch...or at least it coincidentally stopped happening when I disabled the mod.
