Dead Money: How many gold bars did you escape with?
Damn, those things are heavy. :(

I got out with three, after much dropping of items I deemed replaceable and devouring any consumables that weighed more than one pound. Using Buffout allowed me to carry 315 pounds of stuff without being overloaded.

I'll probably sell two bars and put one on the bed at my home base as a souvenir.

What do you actually do with all those gold bars though? Build a fort? Use them as paper weights (knowing that there are actual paper weights in the game already)?

Use as trading material, some of the gun runners Arsenal weapon goes up to 25000 caps. Useful when you want to buy them and don't have that much money on you.
I know you can sell them and that is actually where I've sold the ones I didn't put in my hotel room. It's just that by the time I can get gold bars, I no longer need the caps.
I'm okay if you grab a few gold bars, but if you do what I did on my original playthrough and grabbed all gold bars its ruining the whole point of the dlc.

Think I got around 4-5 every time. I don't really regret leaving the majority behind. I'm so rich at that point in the game I don't even need one bar. The real treasure in that DLC is the infinite supply of Sierra Madre chips.

I made it painful - I used a mod that strips most of the gold and items that you can loot out of the world and reduces the money available from merchants - so those bars actually represented a feth-huge amount of wealth. Like, enough money to set me up to live like a king for the rest of my life. It was *painful* to only be able to get away with a couple.
The Central Intelligence Unit at The Sink in Old World Blues has 14,000 caps after it has been upgraded, and the caps are re-upped every few days. That's probably the best place to sell gold bars.

Kinda DUMB question...you SELL them Silly. Gun Runners has at least $8,000 caps plus items that are expensive so every once in a while I pop in, get EVERYTHING I want PLUS $8,000 caps. You're upset because you didn't get any! AND there are all those IMPLANTS that are expensive.

WTH?? Breaking into the Legendary Sierra Madre Casino and circumventing deadly traps and evil phantams to steal ALL THE LOOT is EXACTLY the point of this dlc!!!!! Getting the GOLD is exactly the point! Is your brain IQ really that low?? Your saying BUY this dlc for REAL MONEY, play it, but leave MOST of the gold in the vault where it can never be used by anyone. I'm glad you're not my parent who teaches me ignorant stupid things like NOT taking virtual gold and using it.
"Begin again... but know when to let go."

"Finding it, though, that's not the hard part. It's letting go."

Looks like someone missed the voiceovers, and the dialogue, and the whole point of the DLC.

Look, just because someone says something doesn't mean that it's TRUTH or GOSPEL. You are a SHEEP if you do "what you're SUPPOSED to" just because it is said. I simply said that you are a complete stupid idiot to leave GOLD behind and not use it PERIOD.
I got away with all of them on my PS3. Haven't played dead money yet on here, but I garentee I will escape with all of them again!
If you didn't take the gold and are happy with that decision, that's great but there is no need to tell others "they missed the point of the dlc" because they did take them. The whole game is about choice. Not everything you do in a game has to have some sort of deep meaning, sometimes it's about doing it because you can, or because you want to. If you want to RP any dialogue in the game, good for you and if anyone wants to use a console command to take them all, that's good for them.

I took them all as well, took me a lot of tries but I got there in the end. Slow walked to the nearest mailbox and sent them over, selling them all to Gun Runners every few days.

I looted literally everything from the vault, and a ton of other junk from the villa.
Then once I got back to the bunker I emptied it all out on the floor...

(yes even the toasters)
Nothing, you could just grind for a few hours and get your bottle caps that way (selling cartons of ciggies to the vending machine near the entrance was a lot more lucrative for my character). But you cannot keep the unique weapons and gear without breaking out the console.
It was some time ago so I forget the details but I know I took all the gold I could find. It was a ridiculous fortune, far more than I could ever need. As long as there is no weight limit, I take EVERYTHING.

There is this vague memory of having tried many, many times though - so it must not have been easy to do.

The other amazing treasure is the evening dress.
