Not Saving at all? Have Windows 10? Here is how to fix it.
I've discovered that Windows 10 is the reason I could no longer save in New Vegas (and probably every other game but I did not check), and this was because Windows 10 changed the permissions of my account, even though it has "Administrator" permissions.

The permanent fix to this is to go into your Documents folder, right click the "my games" folder, go to Properties>Security, click the group you see that is missing check marks under the "Allow" column below, and then click "Edit...", and check "Full control". Click OK, reload Steam for good measure, and it should be fixed. Your account is now "allowed" to write new save data.

Thanks Windows 10. :steamfacepalm:

Change this setting? No, I only did it a few days after when I noticed New Vegas wasn't saving.

Follow my instructions ... it will fix this problem. To make sure, you can even go into the "my games" folder and right click the exact folder of the game you want to save in and follow the same directions.

Simba, sorry for the necro post here, but thanks for your assistance. It helped me tonight.

Another way to fix the issue is to upgrade to previous Windows versions.

You honestly shouldn't even be using Windows 10 for gaming. Plus your issue is more of a thing for Pajeet tech support, not the steam forums.

OKAY GUYS.
Check it. I've had this issue, and no matter how many times people say, "just make yourself admin" or "give yourself all permissions" it didn't work. It constantly reverted to read only. SO... I just deleted the save files under the FNV folder in documents and BOOM now I can save. Have a nice day.

Ok, I figured out a fix (at least for Windows 10). I haven't seen anyone post this fix before, I just happened to figure it out myself after 3 weeks of trying to get my game to save reliably.

Go to Windows Defender Security Center, then go to Virus and Threat Protection (Should be a picture of a shield). After that, go to Virus and Threat Protection Settings, and scroll down until you see "Controlled Folder Access". Disable this.

I'm not super smart with this kind of stuff, but I'm assuming that this was blocking the game from saving because it thought that a malicious program was trying to change files in a certain folder.

This also fixed some other issues aswell, like my Vegas Pro not saving videos, my F4SE and NVSE not working, my Rocket League not working, and some other things too. I highly suggest trying this, as I went through every single fix I could possibly find and none of them actually fixed it. Hope it works for you too.

After trying so many things, this worked for me. I don't have NV installed, but I was the "not saving" issue with other games. Did some testing and BAM! new save files. Thank you for that :D

Superb. All my games stopped saving about 4 weeks ago. I was at my wit's end and thought I'd tried every suggestion online. Eventually found this, and it is the one that worked; thanks for posting.

This worked for me and not just for making new saves but for being able to delete old saves on literally all my games. I seriously don't know what the ♥♥♥♥ Microsoft messed up in their updates but thank the lord this worked.
