NCR Soldiers Suck
Today while playing Fallout New Vegas I had encountered a group of legion assassins after fast traveling to the Mojave Outpost. Oddly the legion assassins did not attack me and instead were non-hostile dispite me being villified by the legion. They in turn started fighting all NCR troops and NPCs at the outpost. Since the assassins were non-hostile toward me I decided to sit back and watch the fight unfold. I was cheering for the NCR to win due to my character being NCR affiliated. As the fight began the assassins killed the named NCR outside (Sgt. Major or something) first. I thought this battle was off to a good start the assassins killed a named NPC. After a couple of minutes had passed I watched the NCR troops get massacred before my eyes as I saw not one legion assassin be put 6 ft. under unlike the troops. After the battle ended the legion ran away from the base after killing everyone including Ranger Ghost, the caravaneers, and a mercenary. I raced after the legion assassins since they were still non-hostile and did not decide to attack me at all. I tried to talk to them but they acted as if I was not villified by the legion so my character went into a rage a killed the assassins for vengence over the deaths of the NCR and others at the outpost. I then returned to the base to survey the aftermath of the massacre. I counted the body count from the bodies I could find and founded out they had killed about 15 people (possible more) the NCR and the NPCs outnumbered the legion about 4 to 1 and were brutally massacred with no casualties suffered to the enemies side. The NCR truly sucks in combat and still lost even when outnumbering the enemy.

tl;dr Four Legion assassins massacred all of the Mojave Outpost (atleast everybody that was outside).

Well, Legion assasins are alot higher level then generic NCR soldiers, and the ones at Mojave outpost are all low-level since you encounter it early in the story. If a couple of NCR ranger vets attacked the Legion Raid Camp or Nelson, it would probably be the same result.

I have seen NCR Rangers fight at cottonwood cove they killed about 5-6 people and then were quickly hacked to pieces due to the machetes of the legionaires crippling them and causing them to be unable to fight back.

Which is why I didn't say Cottonwood Cove, it's got higher level enemies, who are armed better.

I have seen a NCR hit squad appear at the other legion area Nelson and the results were the Rangers won but had only one member left. At the outpost they did not kill even one legion assassin. The outpost had NPCs from a mod (which are rather sturdy), a sentry bot, caravaneers (3), a traveling trader, a mercenary, about 12 or more NCR soldiers and they still lost without killing any of the enemies. At Nelson all they had were legion mongrels and the common legionaires there were only about 12 of them plus 4 mongrels or so (this happened when I did not mod the game at all yet).

NCR: 2-10 armor, service rifle OR 9mm pistol OR hunting shotgun OR lever-action shotgun OR hunting rifle.
Legion: 4-17 armor, machete, cowboy repeater OR hunting shotgun OR throwing spears OR lever-action shotgun OR marksman carbine OR .44 revolver. Always carries food and various healing items.

It's not really a fair fight. Those were ASSASSINS, that have vastly better equipment than the base legion warriors.

I know, right? When I crossed Eddie and helping NCR to retake the prison, the 4 body guards of Eddie killed like 10 NCR troopers with utter impunity. Sure they are supposed to be some hardened thugs but come on...

Bleeding the military dry by giving only the troops 2 weeks of training and trying to buy their way out of problems is the one thing tha kimball is doing wrong with the NCR, they are garbage and are no match for the Enclave

I agree - Legion Centrurion Armor and equipment totally outclasses the NCR and Gang equipment. My PC stores a set of light weight Legion Praetorian Armor for those forays away from areas of NCR influence. For those really tough assignments and when she's tired of spending big bucks to keep her Combat Armor repaired - she uses the mid weight Centurion armor.

I also agree that the Legion Asassins are Elite Troops while most of the NCR in Mojave are poorly trained, with incompetent leadership, and almost zero motivation. A trip to an NCR base will produce no end of self-pitty bravado and excuses.

To share a war story similar to Discreet Pigeon's, my PC savaged a Legion Assassin squad near The Raid Camp and was chasing the lone survivor. She saw an NCR patrol approach and climbed up on a knoll to watch. The Centurion stopped running and attacked the NCR - in just a few minutes there was lots of NCR gunfire but the Centurion literally tore them apart with a Super Sledge. Then another 3 man NCR patrol appeared and the same thing happened. It took 2 trips to Novac to carry the loot. And the Centurion - the last she saw of him was headed south in the direction of Cottonwood Cove.

Despite this being necroed from the abyss, another story that I have is when I was near the 188 trading post a neutral Legion Attack squad passed through but only one member of the four was detected so all of the NPCs attacked him. The amazing thing was that the Legion assassin killed 4 regular NCR troops, a NCR sentry bot, the two traders at the bar father and daughter I believe, the Gun runner guys bodyguard and the ex ncr weapons dealer woman on the top bridge before he was killed by the Followers of Appocolypse guy.
