Real life sarsaparilla drink?
Anyone ever had one or something similar? Is it a common taste in the Western US?

It is not as common as say back the 50's and 60's but yes you can still get it in the western states

Yes there are similar drinks to this, I've had Sarsaparilla candy and drinks as well. Though Moxie (made with gentian root) and birch beer (made with birch bark extract) are more common in the northeast, typically from pennsylvannia up to Maine.

It's still pretty common in the Southern States. It's basically a root beer with a citrus kick at the end. Very good stuff. You can order it or find it in soda shops.

Do they still have it as a soda, maybe I need to look around here more. So far in California and Arizona you can get it as tea but that all I have seen for years.

But anyway back to the Andy's question apparently its even more around then I have seen
Sioux City Sarsaparilla?

Tastes like birch beer. Maybe a little milder. Not particularly refreshing to my palate, but I also dislike soft drinks in general.

Yes. No.

Sarsaparilla is a soft drink, originally made from the Smilax regelii plant . . .

Tastes vaguely rootbeerish. Nobody drinks it out here unless you're in a tourist trap.

Sasparilla or *sassafrass*. I've seen the latter as a tea.

Well, Galco's Soda Pop Stop is a pretty famous soda seller with a wide variety of products, and they're in LA. They also have a catalog online you can order from with several different varieties of Sarsaparilla. Some places have places that sell soda almost exclusively, some don't; In my city there's a shop dedicated to Jerky and Soda almost exclusively. If you're in California though, your best bet is probably to order online.

Always been kind of partial to horehound myself. as I understand it, its similar, but never having had an actual sasparilla can someone who has give me a yea or a neigh on the difference?
ApeWithPC Jul 24, 2015 @ 9:26pm
Nuka Cola... ftw! Just kidding.

I've always equated sasparilla with rootbeer? Now I'm compelled to research and ultimately sample genuine sarsaparilla. Dammit andy, why do you ask such questions :)

I know in an episode of NCIS DiNozo drinks Sarsaparilla because he's on duty. It's in the first season.
BloodShotN8 Jul 24, 2015 @ 10:15pm
