What must my guns skill be at in order for the hunting rifle to be accurate?
Everytime I shoot with it, its inaccurate. My gun skill right now is at about 50-60. I'll shoot at someone less than 20 feet away and miss. After 5 shots I switch to the cowboy repeater, and I start landing shots.

The .308 hunting rifle requires a minimum Guns skill of 50 to use without penalty. Bear in mind that this is further modified by the fact that accuracy is still going to be affected by the Guns skill score as well. Raising it and taking appropriate perks will increase accuracy.

The required gun skills is displayed in your Pip-Boy, in the lower left corner underneath the Vault Boy-picture. However, weapons also require a certain strenght to be used correctly ( 6 for the hunting rifle if I remember correctly) and, naturally, the condition is also important.

I used to like the hunting rifle till i got my hands on this modified version of it called "this machine" i love it for its power and because after every reload the clip satisfyingly springs out and makes this ting noise like the m1 grand.

However with it the iron sight seems to be a little too much to the right. If i aim straight down the center ill miss. But if i aim a little to the right i hit almost everytime. I have a few mods but the only one i can think of that may change aiming is project nevada. Mabey try aiming to the right a little?

The Hunting Rifle, and most other weapons which use the same animation, have an alignment issue with iron sights. This is not a result of your guns score, but a bug with the mesh.

There is a fix located here:

Ah thnx for the correction i suppose. Im not much of a gun buff so i have no idea. I only noticed that both guns hold limited ammo, only fire one shot at a time and use the same ammo. I guess i should have noticed one is bolt action and the other isnt. Seeing as it bugged you i guess you know a thing or two about guns so i have a question for you.

How does one with no gun experience distinguish what gun is what? For example i found one called "all american". How am i supposed to figure out what gun that is and why i should use it over any other rifle? I fired a few rounds into a few enemies, i tried aiming from long to mid and short and i cant see why its more special than anyother rifle ive played with other than the increased clip size.

It has a scope but it fires relatively quickly so its not a sniper rifle. But it has this sort of profile that for me seems common to all modern day rifles u see. There some secret im missing? Some tell or hint like "oh the stock is how you figure it out" or "those ridges on the gun barrel tell u that its this"

Off topic ik but it seems the op's question is answered.
