Seriously Bad Audio Stuttering
I just bought the game yesterday, and booted it up for the first time today. However, the main menu and everything past the intro cutscene has an audio stuttering problem to the point where it's unplayable. Does anyone have a solution? I've tried changing the BMultiThreadAudio file and turning on and off my headphones, but that's about all I've tried. There's a supposed Spotify solution but I don't own spotify, so I haven't tried that. I use Bluetooth earbuds.

I found a solution, hope this helps.

1. Open the file Fallout.ini comes in

2. Right click Fallout.ini and select properties

3. Uncheck read only and set for all files in folder (for me it was the only option)

4. Open Fallout.ini and select edit --> find --> IAudioCache Size

5. set IAudioCacheSize's value to 8192

6. Save Fallout.ini and boot up New Vegas.

This ended up working for me yesterday.
when combined with this user here's

Is how one can fix the New Vegas audio stutter issue. however, the way to proceed is a little bit wrong. First thing you oughta do before making both Fallout.ini files Read-Only is to change the audiochachesize's value to the one brought here by the user above (i.e.:8192) on both filles. Doing this before Read-Only will allow you to save the correction brought to the files as placing them on read-only will not let you re-write the files. only once the files have been corrected you can place them in Read-Only.

I suggest raising attention to this thread and post so that it comes up in the google search algorithm so future players will find this information more easily,
For those of us using a mod loader/organizer of some sort, you can access the .ini files by requesting you application to "Open Game Settings Folder". I use Vortex (Works on my Machine(tm)). and followed and adjusted the method and am now enjoying amazing breadth of song in the Radio New Vegas and Mojave Music Radio and the fallout OST with no stutter of any kind at all.
i tried this using MO2 ini editor didnt work
Edit: manually editing the "FalloutPrefs.ini" as well will update if that works

Hello all. Sorry if I'm replying to this quite old thread. I just fixed this problem taken from a solution from another thread (I am also using bluetooth earbuds).

The simple solution I did is to play just few seconds of any song in Spotify then pause, then launching the game. No more audio stuttering. This must be a bluetooth issue. The other similar music apps might also work.

+1

As soon as I plugged in wired headphones the issue went away. Yup! It's a Bluetooth thing (in my case anyway.)

P sure wired works fine. Otherwise ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with configs worked for me. Still need to play this game lol.

Just on the off-chance someone still struggling with this, what I actually tried was switching back and forth the default audio output device.

So, while the game is launched and you hear the stuttering already, in the Windows Settings > System > Sound > Volume mixer. You should see your bluetooth headphones selected as output device. Select any other available device from the drop-down, and then switch back to selecting your BT headphones. That somehow magically stopped the stuttering, audio is normal now from the game. Only thing that worked for me, hope it can help someone else.

None of the solutions described here worked with me, neither did others found from googling which mainly involved having to enabled "Disable audio enhancements" or similar tweaks after doing a Windows troubleshoot of the audio.

Sorry to revive this but this fixed my audio issue after messing with the ini files for hours to no avail. Thank You sm

I tried everything I found on the Internet, but the music kept stuttering.

I will not describe the entire process of trying - the solution I found was to install the ffdshow codec and exclude Falloutnv.exe from the codec`s exclusion list.
As far as I understand, modern codec packs do not contain this codec and it must be installed separately.

or you can simple enable WMP (it shipped with old deprecated codecs used by old games, released before 2010 - ) or use any normal(non M$) mediaplayer with standalone codecs

I tried K-lite and CCCP codec packs with MediaPlayerClassic but they have lav codec, which does not work in FNV. And there is no option in codec`s config to force the game to use it. Atleast i did not find it. Ffdshow has this option.

I don't know what about older windows codecs, but I had this issue on Win 7 sp1 with codecs from 2015 (WMP installed by default). And this issue is only in Fallout NV, in Fallout 3 everything is ok.

there also ogg vorbis fix
BT sound broken since 2018 (problem only in one game, but some dudes use streaming ability in HDMI Audio to workaround :nonplussed_creep:)
K-lite and CCCP - must be used carefully - Mega for example can broke bunch of games if user don't know on which versions of which codecs game depend

Try using FXSound. Google it. It fixes my audio errors every single time. And makes the audio quality much better overall system wide.

(I am using Bluetooth Sony XM5's. I just read upwards and people were saying about using bluetooth headphones. FXSound fixes the bluetooth audio issues)

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
