Vilified with Caesar

I'm at the point in the main story where I must retrieve the Platinum Chip from Benny, who is currently a prisoner of Caesar. Apparently I am supposed to talk with Caesar, but Boone (my companion) hates them. This resulted in the mass killing of Caesar's Legion, and I am now vilified with them, thus removing my ability to safely talk with Caesar. How can I get around this? I have no previous save before this happened.

Have you talked to Mr. House? You are supposed to go inside a bunker in Fortification Hill.

Or you could just leave Boone outside....

I'm pretty sure Boone warns you of the consequences plenty of times...

You should be given the mark of Caesar prior to the quest that will allow you to go there in peace. Tell Boone to wait outside of the town the ferry is an and you should be fine.

I should have done that when I first encountered them, but I am not perfect . Yet sadly the damage is done and even without Boone they hate me.

The game might have glitched because he only told me after he had killed a ton.

I have the Mark of Caesar, but this Boone incident occured after I obtained the Mark, so it doesn't really apply anymore.

Oh...I see. I killed plenty of legion before I visited him after I got the mark an I was fine. The town you go into shouldn't be hostile (unless Boone is let in there to kill them all). I guess the other option is to kill everyone there and go into the bunker yourself. That might work.

They're hostile to me since I'm vilified :/

Yeah, I might need to level up a few more times and just slay them all. Even if I love the legion, it must be done.

I was villified by them too when I did it, didn't cause any problems.

And then you got the Mark of Caesar, which removes that fact. Unless I'm missunderstanding something.

I think I got the mark, then killed some legion guys and they didn't attack me after. So I was villified after I got the mark.

Maybe. Did you go to the town of the river (can't remember the name) with Boone and he started shooting? That could cause it.

As a workaround you can change your faction standings via the console. Found this after a wee google:

The syntax is "setreputation factionid x y" where x = is either 1 or 0 (1 for positive, 0 for negative) and y = the percentage of reputation. Example; setreputation FFAE8 1 0 would set the Boomer Faction to Neutral. setreputation FFAE8 1 100 would make them Idolized. setreputation FFAE8 0 100 would make them Villinized.
