Problem with xbox 360 controller
Hi,

I just bought Fallout NV. As soon as I started I ran into a problem. When i am using my wired xbox 360 controller and I press RT once it doesn't respond at all or my character just starts auto attacking. I'm not using any third party software, just enabled the xbox 360 controls in the game itself.

I looked all over the internet to solve this issue and saw a few other topics were people were having the same issue but i can't seem to find a real fix for it.

Thing i have already done to try and fix it myself:

- Other 360 controller
- Deleted all settings in C:\Users\myname\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV
- Deleted save game and started over, with another savegame the issue still persists.

After these fixes I even deleted the whole game and downloaded it again but after that I still had the same problem.

This is really frustrating for me, i would love to play the game with an xbox controller.

Your help would be appreciated!

Btw, don't bother saying I should use mouse and keyboard because it's better. Everyone has it's own preferences and you are not helping me by saying m+kb is better.

Nothing you can do to fix it. The devs had to put in full controller support on PC and they did not... I also wanted to play this on my wired 360 controller... only option you have is changing the attack button to RB.

Hmm if what you say is true I think i'm just gonna play with m+kb. Weird thing is, a friend of mine is playing this with a controller with no issues at all.

Are you having the same issue yourself RipstaX? Because i don't think everyone is experiencing this particular issue.

I also am having weird issues with my Xbox 360 controller. I just installed the game for the first time, and can't seem to get past the tutorial area with the Doctor. The controller will not respond to the RT button when using the machine that assigns points to your player. I even tried remapping buttons, and I just don't get all of them to work.

I use this controller everyday for all of my other games. Seems like something is wrong in New Vegas. Anyone get theirs working properly from the start? I'd really like to play this game.

Seems like you have the exact same problem as me. A friend of mine is also playing with a xbox controller but he doesn't have this issue at all, so it doesn't affect everyone.

Could you also post a comment on my reddit topic? maybe we can find someone who knows how to fix this

I found a fix.

No amount of tinkering with alternate control schemes helps and just leads to frustration because using VATS still requires the RT button even if you remap it so it effs up the whole combat system unless you don't use VATS at all.

However, using my PS4 controller plugged in with the DS4windows program on default settings worked like a charm and now I can play with a controller again (which is great because I have it set up in my livingroom so a mouse and keyboard just isn't as comfortable for extended play ;)

Should also work for PS3 controllers, and may also work with other wireless controllers (I believe it is in fact an incompatibility with the 360 controller driver since devices using the generic Wireless Controller driver work just fine)

Hey CrazyBeaver, did you find a solution for this issue?

Thanks!

Seriously , I used wired XBox 360 controllers with FONV for over a year prior to going to mouse and kb. Check your Steam controller settings or disable Big Picture Mode or at least the overlay and see if that helps out.

Did you download the official XBox 360 Controller drivers - I'm not talking about plugging in the gc and letting Windows fetch everything. Download the Drivers, right click the installer, go to properties and make sure to check the unblock check box if it is present and click apply. Run the installer with administrative rights and do so without the controller being plugged in, reboot the computer then plug the controller in after you have logged into your account and everything has fired up. Had similar problems initially and these steps resolved those for me --try it out.

You may also want to install the 32bit controller drivers as 64bit seems to not work with NV.

Should still work with Windows 10 -- worked in Vista and 7 32 and 64bit versions.
Take care.

I'm having the same issue. I bought a new controller, so it can't have worn out already.

There seems to be no fix?

For anyone who may stumble upon this in the future, I found a fix: enable the Steam Controller overlay, and through the controller settings, increase the R trigger deadzone. That’s what worked for me :MGS2_Otadot2:

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
