Issue reguarding novac house

So, when I owned this game on the xbox 360, I remember your first kind of... safe house was a house in novac.
I remember the landlord of the hotel area gives you the key.
My issue is: I had the sniper kill her before I got the key and couldn't quite find out where to get it.
So, I simply used the "Unlock" command on the door, worked simple enough.
However, I have one issue and a question:
I can't remember which house is the actual safe house. One of the houses is red text, is that it?
Also, is the safehouse actually safe now that I used the unlock command? I think I may have put items in the safehouse, but going back there's nothing in any of them.

it's a motel room. upper floor on the left as you face the rooms. there's a safe in there, i guess stuff would still be ok in it.
