If you can get back to the main menu, click settings and then control mappings. in the bottom right corner of the key mappings screen there is a tab that says devices. Click it and make sure the game has you using a mouse and not a controller. If you have a controller hooked up, unplug it, then start the game again.
And open task manager then close it and try to start the game again.
I just tried and you're right. You can use the arrow keys to navigate through the key mappings but they won't work to get to the device tab. Really strange!!!
When I start New Vegas, I see the blue circle "busy" cursor from windows, and if I click, it dissapears and the Fallout cursor shows up in the center of the screen, but I can't move it at all. I also noticed the windows cursor seems to still be active in the background somehow, because I can see it when I move the mouse to the corners of the screen. If I click in the top left or right corner when the mouse is visble, the game minimizes.
I have only been able to find solutions to a similar problem dealing with having a controller plugged in, but I know that isn't the case for me since I dont have a gamepad plugged in.
I have found that simple patience works best. It can chug to a crawl and take a few minutes but I find it useful to wait it out.
Having computer problems in here is a bit like having a serious illness - everyone you meet knows exactly what you need and they are always wrong...lol
Validating my game files fixed it. That's all you have to do. Right click the game, go to properties, local files, and validate.
First: The problem is in both Fallout 3 and NV (most likely due to the same engine)
Second: The keyboard appears to work and a controller can be used to move around just fine, although this impractical for me as I have it modded heavily
Third: Validating game Cache does not fix it
Fourth: If you move your mouse to the very corners of the screen It appears that the windows mouse can be seen, but only in the corners
Fifth: FNV doesnt accept input from both external mouses (a wired one) and a built-in trackpad, this makes me believe that a driver is not the issue
So, my theory is that something is wrong with the computer itself that would cause both Fallout 3 and Fallout NV to have the same problem. Any ideas?
