Repair costs are ♥♥♥♥ing ridiculous
2000 caps to reapir armor that's barely damaged?
10000 to repair a tesla cannon at half condition?
3000 to repair a barely damaged plasma rifle?
There are not enough of these armor/weapons to be able to maintain yours around, even with jury rigging.
Also i'll add that i have barter maxed out

Another vote for weapon repair kits. They are made from quite common materials (best to stockpile them at your 'home'), and you can get 55 of them every 3 days after completing the Dead Money DLC.
How exactly does this work?
After you finish Dead Money you will get 100 Sierra Madre chips and one complimentary voucher placed in the wall safe in the abandoned BoS bunker every three days. The complimentary voucher can be traded in for 1000 chips as long as you took the time to get banned from betting at Sierra Madre.
1100 chips every three days where weapon repair kits only cost 20.

Alternatively, the Sink in OWB can be used to amass enormous quantities of all components of WPRs except wrenches, just by trading in junk items like dinner plates, coffee mugs, clipboards and toasters.

Due to how early you can unlock the ability to craft them its probably wise to get into a habit of hoarding every scrap metal, scrap electronics, duct tape, wrench and wonderglue you come across. They are all extremely common, and useful in a number of crafting recipes.

Scrap Metal is one of the harder ones to keep around, since they're also used to make Lead for bullet crafting. It's inefficient as hell, though, since it's one SM for 200 Lead, enough for about 12-20 bullets, depending on caliber and type.

I prefer to break down 20 guage rounds for my lead. They are inexpensive, also give pistol powder (for JHP!) and vendors tend to stock a lot of them.
Hadn't actually tried that much, but it's not like I don't have 8000 of the damn things. >_>

why bother making weapon repair kits when EDE can fix you guns whenever its needed?

Because if you haven't done Lonesome Road yet, that option isn't available to you.
You don't really need to do Lonesome Road to get it, the upgrade enabling repair is pretty much at the front door!

Because loot comes in far faster than ED-E can repair, and some glass cannon type weapons, like Elijah's LAER need more maintenance than ED-E can provide.

Just repeair weapons and armor with other weapons and armor, they're everywhere in the game m8

That doesn't work for weapons like the Tesla Cannons or the SMMG, even with Jury Rigging.

If you can't jury rig something, it's generally not worth using even for fun.

Fact.

I have a special place in my inventory for the SMMG, but the TMP added by WMX-Modern Weapons is a much better use of my 10mm ammo.

The other two UE weapons that aren't affected are the Holorifle, which is easily succeeded by the LAER (repaired by Plasma or Recharger Rifle) and the Grenade Machinegun, which really has no use in the game since there's rarely the space to use it...the only normal use I can think of for it is Cazador clearing, which can be handled by Red Glare, which can be repaired with Missile Launchers or a Fat Man.

I used Mercy once. It wasn't even on hardcore difficulty, but I still ran out of ammunition very quickly, and the gun's condition dropped to jamming levels.

The red glare is easily the most american gun in the game, dispensing 13 rockets' worth of justice, freedom, and liberty, at an affordable 140~ dollar cost per rocket fired. Very economical weapon, let me tell you.

I'm straight up honest, though, the red glare is the only odd ball weapon I ever actually use, because it's so amazingly silly. Even more so than the already silly fatman.

The basic rockets are only about 30 caps. The more expensive ones are the High Explosive and Inc. rockets. :P
