"Them's Good Eats"...
Gimme some opinions on this perk. I took it last time (my first time thru), and while I liked having it, I'm not sure it was ever something I'd consider critical.

This time, I'm agonizing over whether to spend a perk on it. Realistically, the only reason I am considering it is for Dead Money...having a 'slow-feed' health source would be very useful. But after that...I dunno...there are so many good recipes for basically the same thing (outside DM)...I just don't know if it's worth it. My first time, I ended up using it mostly for a trading item, but that was NOT on HC.

So I'm interested in hearing the why and why-not from you guys...helps me decide.

I believe it is good despite it not being considered a food item. It works best in hardcore mode for they heal for great amounts and can be picked off of basically any living creature frequently. Also like what you mentioned they tend to be great items to trade for quick caps.

OK...good. Thanks for your response. Makes good sense...especially as you said, I get food/health items off just about any slain foe, which means I have a constant supply of food/health where ever I go.

But I also enjoy the whole 'crafting food' aspect of the game, and when I took 'Eats' last time, that basically went out the door. Why carry/craft any food items when I have a steady supply comming in with every kill? I gotta think hard on this one.

You could always try have a few other food/healing items so that the healing stacks and heal faster than relying on healing from the blood sausage and thin paste exclusively.

Edit: Though the situations don't occur very often if you need to do that other than possibly fighting off the BOS, deathclaws, and maybe bosses.

Well, besides the healing aspect of the thin red paste and blood sausage, there are the financials... they are forth ALOT ! I always take this perk, you can make a mint off selling the free, eccess of these two items... also they both can be cooked at a campfire into even better healing items, Black Blood Sausage and Thick Red Paste... it drastically improves thier taste, without making them sound any more appealing... and you are right, its not critical, seriosly helps during Dead Money, big time!

yeah the healing aspect is minor, it does increase your health or something to eat them items so its a temporary health boost and every kill in dead money roles twice (once when you knock the guy down and a second time when you actually kill him)

so you could farm alot of sausage. but by the point you get the perk money isn't really an issue. Jury rigging takes care of that along with sustansial barter. and the whole 'letting go thing'

I took the perk once or twice. not really essential but I got slots for a few free perks on my way to level 50.

If your Survival is high, the healing from these two items, is amazing. As good as Stimpaks, slower though.

Thanks for all the great input, guys...it really helps. I mean, even tho I basically 'know' what the perk can do for me, your opionions help me feel comfortable with w/e decision I'm going to make. And you're right...although the financial aspect is certainly nice, I'm not really needing caps that bad anymore. So I guess the question is, do I want to spend a perk slot on it this time around, given that I didn't really feel like It was a must-have last time, and I'd basically be getting it for one specific DLC.

Here's what I'm gonna do...I'm at level 26+, so I think I'll do some stuff to get to 27, then just head for DM and see how it goes. If I decide I gotta have it, I should be able to struggle thru for one level, and take it then. Hell, if all else fails, I can always wimp out and dumb down the difficulty...lol.

Thanks again.

26th, 27th level.. you'll be fine, fishhooks.

Very good perk to make money and an easy heal item since every living enemy will drop it.

Cool...thanks for the reassurance. Last time, I hit DM at level 19 (on Very Hard), and it was surprisingly easy...but that was NOT on HC.

So now I get why I've seen so many comments about it being difficult...I started it at one point, and didn't realize about the 'bleed' effect, so I loaded a prior save to give me time to re-think it. Last run, I could take my time, sneak around, avoid traps, explore, w/e. I can see now that my previous strategy is going to be severely compromised. Should be fun, tho...looking forward to it.

Also, agonizing over the decision about "Eats" for so long may have been pointless. After careful review of perks I could take in its place, I'm not finding anything that's particularly interesting to me...lol. Wasted thread, I guess, but I DID enjoy reading all your comments, guys.

Thanks

You nailed the main things that you have to do to survive it in Hardcore... sneakin' 'round, being aware of traps, i love how you had to be so careful and meticulous in this dlc. Its not like you can just stimpack those crippled limbs in hardcore, cant sleep 'em better either. Luring Ghost People is key as well, sometimes they are like havin' a party, there's three or four of 'em, one has a Gas Bomb, I think that I limped into the Sierra Madre Casino, like something out of an action movie. I'm worried for this playthrough that I'm doin' now... only allowed Cannibalism and Ghastly Scavenger as food, no regular food, Hardcore. I wasnt a cannibal during Dead Money, last time, dont know if i can eat ghost people...
fishhooks 12 DIC 2015 a las 11:21
lol...maybe if you get to them before Dog does...

Wow...if that's your only food source, your karma must be in the tank.
Zaphod 12 DIC 2015 a las 13:15
LOL... yeah, my Karma is Hideous, already, and i'm only level 7. I never went through with bad karma before, wanted to see how it all played out. i played one other cannibal character before, but i kept my Karma in check, killed Powder-gangers, Fiends... That guy was a Harcore, my first Hardcore, in fact, took cannibal just to give me more food options, if it came to that, didnt do it too often. This new guy... a whole different beast.
