Best automatic weapon? (Or at least the one with the highest DPS?)
H-hey everybody! I know most folk use high damage single shot weapons like the anti mat, COS sniper, and the medicine stick because they are so good in this game, but what if I want to have some fun with automatics? I’ve used most of them and it seems that I can’t go wrong with a 45 smg, although the CZ57 avenger is also pretty strong.
Speaking of strong weapons, it just occurred to me how similar Lil’ devil and a light shining in darkness are. Yet everyone (including myself) seems to put ALSIN (including myself) in higher regard.
Thoughts?

CZ57 has the highest DPS of any ballistic weapon. If youre doing a energy build you would use the Sprtl-Wood 9700.

Lil Devil does more damage than ALSID, but comes with its own issues such as its price of 16000 caps (Lower with good barter ofcourse) and its rare and expensive ammo whereas ALSID is available for free after completing HH. Also people just love Joshua Graham and M1911's so theres that.

The best automatic is probably either the CZ57 with bulk ammo or a modified Gatling Laser with max charge ammo and Camrader-E rank 4. Speaking of Energy Weapons, the Laser RCW is also greatly helped by Camrader-E rank 4. The MF Hyperbreeder Alpha can also easily be the only weapon you use in a run with it's fast rate of fire and recharge rate.

The K9000 Cyberdog gun, FIDO and the shoulder mounted machine gun are all great, but they absolutely piss through ammo. Makes it hard to recommend them. The H&H Tools nail gun is also pretty good with an absolutely fantastic rate of fire, but you'll constantly be on the search for more scrap metal due to the low damage of each individual nail..

Lil' Devil and ALSIN are pretty similar, as are Lucky and That Gun. Biggest difference is the ammo, which is probably why most people would rate ALSIN above Lil' Devil and That Gun above Lucky.
Thanks fellas! The CZ definitely seems to be the real deal. That and the spertel wood. Although what do you think of the smaller smgs? Like the aforementioned 45 smg?

The Sprtel-Wood has a higher Damage Per Shot by 6 (3 with a modified Gatling Laser) but only holds 20 rounds compared to the Gatling's 30. It's a trade off on higher DAM but lower DPS due to increased rate of reloads, It's really more of a preference thing.

SMGs in general have great DPS but require close range to make the most of their high rate of fire. Can't say I ever personally used the .45 SMG, so I can't comment on that specifically, but I would argue that the "best" use of 9mm ammo is in Vance's 9mm SMG and the "best" use of 10mm ammo outside of the shoulder mounted machine gun is Sleepytyme. If you have a surplus of .45 ammo, the SMG is probably a good choice if you aren't going to just use A Light Shining In Darkness anyway.

Yeah makes sense to me. Thanks for the help!
can't go wrong with a minigun but honestly i'd actually pick the sleepytime 10mm smg that is sold at gun runners with the GRA

-it's holdout
-silent
-10mm smg

really worth the caps and it counts as automatic.
that or the nail gun for the memes

It seems like the best Guns and E-Weapons have been mentioned so I guess I'll bring up 'Mercy' for Explosives. It gets nearly 700 DPS and cripples limbs like crazy (like all explosives do)

You can't go wrong with the good old Tommy Gun. It's does pretty good damage and the .45 auto round is versatile. Armor Piercing rounds are fine, but load it with .45 Super or Hollowpoints and it just shreds.

EDIT: When I say Tommy Gun, I do mean the .45 SMG. So yeah if you already love it, you can stick with it. Not the absolute best DPS dealer, but still a great gun.

Yeah I must say I really like it. I much prefer it over the 12.7 smg by a long shot.

I have never tried it. It’s kinda like Vance’s smg where it’s really cool but I don’t find myself using it at all.

Explosives are one of my least used skill in new Vegas so that sounds fun! I will have to brave the hell hole known as dead wind cavern though.

Explosives-focused playthroughs can be pretty fun. Here's a little tip, Dead Wind Cavern is a lot easier if you grab a Flare Gun from Lonesome Road ahead of time.

silenced smg with sneak is mega busted as is any sneak build lol

I find that this game doesn't favour fully automatic weapons much because of the damage system that encourages slower but higher damaging weapons over faster firing and lower damage weapons, so I tend to just use manual or semi automatic rifles and shotguns, although the RCW is pretty good with a recycler and optimized ammo

The nail gun is actually pretty incredible, even with its low damage, You can easily cripple limbs with it, and because it's silent, you get stealth crits to help boost its damage, especially if you go for the head.

But Sleepytyme is also pretty great, especially since 10mm is easy to find.

Then again, I'm also a weirdo that loves the 12.7mm submachine gun, even if it's ugly as sin.

How dare you! The 12.7mm SMG looks cool!
