Even if we have more available FNV doesnt recognise it or uses it.
Its a 32 bit app - it is physically impossible for it to acces any more than 4 GB.
The vanilla executable does not have the Large Address Aware flag set so it will only access *2GB* - to leave room for the OS and other programs.
4GB NV sets that flag so that it will be able to access the full 4GB.
Of course there's a problem with the engine that won't let it actually get the full 4 - slightly over 3 is the best you'll get.
And, before you ask, the reason these older games were set at 2Gb is at the time most OS' were still 32 bit and only had 4GB of memory total - this is to prevent the game from crashing your whole computer. Oh, and its a mandatory thing for 360/PS3 apps to be limited to 2 GB.
Not long after FO3 was released the major switch to 64 bit for PC happened.
P.S I know this thread has long since been dead.
You didn't have to do this, and even you know it, yet, you've done it. Why?
Think for yourself, stop just regurgitating ideas and opinions you saw other people use online.
