Hi. So i havent played new vegas in a few months, and i open it up today and it starts crashing every time i load or start a new game. So i install NVAC . Things are going well, i can start a new game easy, no crashing. but now theres no hair. everyone is bald. my character in character creator, no hair available. I load an old save, No Hair. Everyone is bald. I tried to download the d3d9 fix but that didnt work. Im not sure what to do, does anyone have a fix please i want to play the game

steam verify game files?

game has not updated. I got a windows update and a graphics card driver update this week. so what changed on your machine since last played?

go to folder Documents\My Games\FalloutNV
delete or rename or move somewhere else Fallout.ini FalloutPrefs.ini RendererInfo.txt
maybe a graphics settiing is corrupt

check windows event viewer and also windows reliability history. might be a game crash event or system related errors. an error msg would help

still the same problem? check windows system files and uninstall/clean install graphics card driver.

Did you install the d3d9 fix via a mod installer or manually? I remember manuallly only worked for me and fixed this issue.

Definitely is an issue involving that, i don't remember how I fixed it on my amd rig though, haven't seen it happen on my laptop running Nvidia. If you search around you'll find it eventually though, wish I could remember.

You used this mod? https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34778

Just copy the d3d9.dll and place it in your Game Folder of New Vegas (Right click on F:NV in Steam > Manage > Browse Local Files).

I did that, yeah. But nothing happened, still bald, but now the game is lagging more

im not very good with computers, could i need to update a graphics card? I believe my system uses AMD? Im not sure how event viewer works, but i do know NV crashed a lot today before installing NVAC

I have an nvidia card. characters are not bald. but someone with an amd card will have to post whether that card's latest drivers cause a hairless issue.

OKAY i ended up fixing it. The d3d9 mod said to use winrar? when i did it just didnt work. I uninstalled winrar and just downloaded it again (for the third time) and put it in without winrar. and now all of a sudden its working?

so you played a few months ago and everything was fine.
now the game crashes and when it does not crash everyone is bald.

and now you need nvac and a d3d9 mod to stop the crashing and cure baldness.
well whatever works. congrats on fixing the issues. maybe it will help another user.

This worked thank you! I think this may have also fixed a bug i was having where the water in my game was glowing blue and the texture was fried. Also might be worth noting to anyone that lowering graphic settings may help
