It's the only weapon where that could be justified, but it's got no ironsights and really isn't much use compared to most of the other weapons, plus losing a guaranteed unique of a rather rare weapon is a bit too much to throw away for about 70 crits.
It's a sniper rifle, not a shotgun.
It also breaks incredibly fast (being a sniper rifle and all) and doesn't have a knockdown effect.
I stand by my claim that it's a far superior weapon to the Alien Blaster.
If you're using a sniper weapon at close range, anything that happens is your fault because you did it horribly wrong.
Trust me, I've been there with the AMR. Using something like that within 10 feet is asking to get murderized.
I will unabashedly use the varmint rifle as my main weapon up until Novac.
