How Does The Courier have the Vault 13 canteen?

i know it come´s with the Courier´s Stash, but is there any reason why he has it. or is it just easter egg to FO1/FO2?

It's a pre-order pack. It's just there because Refrences.

If I'm not mistaken Sawyer Mod does something more logical with it. Or just removes it. Can't recall.

It's just a tribute in the form of a preorder pack later turned DLC. It has little to no canonical value.

Sawyer's mod places the Classic Pack items inside the Wrecked Highwayman, which itself is a reference to the Chosen One's Highwayman from Fallout 2.
