How to do a fresh install of Fallout New Vegas
Hey so I got the usual mods for Fallout NV to make it run better but it doesn't seem to have helped much (the game does look awesome though), I probably did something wrong. My question is how do I wipe all traces of Fallout NV from my hard drive so I can start clean and try again, is it enough to just click "Uninstall" in steam? I don't want anything to carry over when I restart, for example, a looong time ago I got NMC's texture pack but I know it's not installed or enabled anywhere in Vortex, yet the title screen is the one from NMC's, and so is the roulette wheel in the loading screen, and probably a bunch of other stuff. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Steam only removes files that it has installed itself, so you will need to manually remove any modded files from the game folder after you've uninstalled the game.

Got it, I'll make sure to do that, thanks.

so just so I don't miss anything, "unistalling" via steam only gets rid of the files on

program files>steam>steamapps>common>Fallout

but I also have to delete the files in

games>NMM>FalloutNV

and that's everything right?

As I said, Steam will not remove any files that it did not place itself when you installed the game. Steam installs the game to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas, and will remove the vanilla game files when you uninstall it, but mods will have to be removed manually. In short: delete everything in this folder for a clean install.

Games/NMM/FalloutNV looks like a Nexus Mod Manager location. If I'm not mistaken, the mods located here are packaged and not actually installed, they're just ready for NMM to manage. At least that's how it works in FOMM, which I use and which NMM is based on. You don't have to remove anything from this folder, in case you want to reinstall some of these mods later, but it won't hurt to remove everything if you're starting completely fresh.

There are also the INI files stored in Documents\my games\falloutnv. If you've messed with these, you might also want to remove them and let the game generate fresh ones.

BTW, when you mod FNV again, use MO2: it uses a virtual file system so you can add and remove mods without having to root around the actual game files.
