This was only season 1.
They built up season 2 wonderfully and with some great twists.
I think people were expecting the show to be extremely similar to the games in terms of story but I thought it was wonderfully done with dark-satirical humor to add into the extreme violence they have added throughout.
For the things about New Vegas hate. As far as I know this is 5 years before or after NV game.
So if it's 5 years after then what happened is completely plausible.
I genuinely think people are expecting too much to coincide with the games, Things will obviously be different
Analogy: The last of us show. Completely changed many aspects from the game and was still beloved (regarding the fact the show also was telling a almost similar but partially reimagining of the game)
Also people thinking minor items should be explained is weird? For people who don't know they get to visibly see what those items do to affect the character that uses them in the show, Unless you're an extremely slow learner or just not paying attention it explains enough without going into unnecessary detail into unimportant things.
All in all, I absolutely loved the show as a Fallout fan, I'm extremely excited for what's to come next.
If you only watched episode 1 or parts of the show then I can't see you really having the place to share an opinion with such little knowledge of the show. It did so many things amazingly while keeping each episode completely fresh.
Would you have watched it without the Fallout branding?
Sounds like you're just primed to hate it for some reason.
Total agree. I loved the show. Some people are just wanting to complain I think. I think the showrunners did a great job sneaking in a ton of nods to the game while also being accessible to those who've never heard of it.
This is one of the problems with gamers, anytime something of ours goes mainstream people have to ♥♥♥♥ on it because it's not exactly identical to what they have going on in their head and it's not 100% like the game.
To be honest, so far, the series is the most true to the source out of any game-to-TV adaptation I've ever seen.
Plot holes, nonsensical stuff, garbage ghoul that doesn't resemble one, trash power armor, etc.
People who loved the show probably loved whatever Disney has to offer nowadays.
The show made me want to replay the series and so far throughout New Vegas.
Hearing Shady Sands being referenced in the games and looking back at the show seeing and finding out what happened was incredibly cool.
Most people were guaranteed expecting the show to run through like how the games do, constantly killing, doing wacky side quests and expecting a brand new plot..
The show was made for a wider audience and following the very reasonable and obviously working plot of leaving the vault to search for a family member worked perfectly. They added really interesting twists and expanded so much on the pre bomb drop society of the world and into the dark secrets of Vault-Tec.
Reworking the entire story to fall in line or to line up with any of the games “New Vegas mainly” is unreasonable especially considering HOW MANY ENDINGS NEW VEGAS HAS.
They obviously lore dumped and chose this route to please everyone so no diehard fanboys would freakout about their favorite playthrough/ending of NV not being canon…
People need to be happy that we got such an extraordinarily well done Fallout show that stayed true to the games form of identity while also playing it safe in a post apocalyptic america that we know so much about already
I put a hundred dollars in your shower and a week later its still there.
I'm glad he liked it, but it's not going to raise my interest.
To each their own on if they enjoy the show but it's factually wrong to say this show is a bad adaption.
That would just be die-hard fanboy behaviour. At the same time you can ask those people what they would do or have done to make the show "good" in their mind and they would be left speechless since they aren't filmmakers.
If you're wanting to compare "Fallout series" to other adapted game media then take a look at "the last of us - compared to the game" or halo series compared to the game. Tomb raider movies compared to the games. Uncharted movie compared to the games. They all completely deviate and try and do their own thing while using the "Name" and similar style.
Fallout genuinely stayed true to its material its adapting from. While pushing for even more story and opportunities of places to go and expand upon. With really good choreographed action to dark yet satirical humor it did things extremely well.
People often forget how ridiculous the games can be, how the games are open world RPGS.
The fact that they made a first season that is actually fun and engaging to watch is a big accomplishment. Especially for a series like fallout with an incredible amount that could have easily been messed up
I am generalising. My experience, programs/movies based on games have been typically bad, this was not.
