after im done with fallout: new vegas, which fallout game should i play next?

I'd recommend Fallout 3. It's not as good, but I feel like it's still worth playing. Point Lookout is unforgettable. And once you have it, you can play A Tale of Two Wastelands.

theyre almost 2 completely different games
fallout is extremely serious and dark
fallout 2 is more wacky and sexualized
3 is wacky
new vegas is dark and wacky

If you want a similar experience, I'd recommend 3. It was also an entry point for many people in the series myself included. There you can branch out to whatever experience you want. A classic RPG experience from the originals that started it all? 1 and 2. Survival Shooter? 4 and 76.

3 for similarity, if you can handle the somewhat archaic play-style of one 1 and 2, I would say do it, but a see a lot of gamers dislike the way it plays.

Fallout 4 is a bad Fallout game, it removes basically every aspect of what makes the games good, so if you're looking for a Fallout experience, 4 is not it.
