Can you kill Yes Man?
I know you can kill anyone you want, but what would happen if you kill Yes Man before you insert him into the Lucky 38 and while he's still in Benny's room? He's the root for the independent route, so if you anger all the other factions as well, could that then end in a soft-lock?

It's to avoid softlocks. Other than the children, he might be the only essential NPC.

Gunrunners Vendotron and Festus are not essential but can't be killed with out commands

You can also sneak critical Yes Man with laser/plasma weapon iirc, it kills him forever if he gooifies or turns to ash, and thus will soft lock you.
