Can't Give Initiate Stanton back his pistol

So, I started this very buggy unmarked quest, and unlike most people, I found the pistol, but now the dialogue option to give it back to him (or Torres) wont appear, even if I equip the gun and hold it while I talk to him, Ive tried reloading the game, nothing. Is there some console command I could use to at least drop the item from my inventory? Before anyone asks, my last hard save was like 2 hours before hand and I aint going all the way back

You don't give the gun back to him, you turn it in to the quarter master at the firing range.

The quarter master won't take it either? Weird. You might have to resort to console commands. You'll have to check around the wiki or something.

Yeah I took it to both of them and they neither had an option to give it to them
