Nipton Town Hall made me crash

I've just arrived in Nipton and no matter what I do now the game crashes.
Loaded the autosave, crashes
Loaded the manual save, crashes
Repaired
Loaded both saves, crashes

It's not the most fortunate digital copy as I've had many other problems in the past, but I'm quite disappointed I can't make it work.
Any solution at hand?
GOG? Mods? Throwing the PC out of the window?
