I highly recommend no. Playing the vanilla game on your 1st playthrough imo is a must because it preps you up for some mighty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you will eventually stumble upon while also keeping you familiar with the mechanics and maybe because its literally the 1st step to modding the game (launching the game for the first time), but considering that this game is as old as time, if you cant progress or just crash nonstop or feel as if its too much for you, then you should probably download some of the patches the community has made. Be warned though that some of the useful bugs or exploits you know will get patched by Yukichigai Unofficial Patch.

No, aside from possible stability mods, even though it might not be crashing now.

I would take note of what you feel is lacking as you play, then on your next playthrough, look on Nexus for the things you thought could be improved.

Check to see you installed its requirements and you installed the files in the right place.

Have you already installed knvse and nvse or other requirements for the mod? Im assuming you're using nexusmods so check if there is any conflicting mods as in load orders or overwrites. And you may want to look into the fallout nv 4gb patch. Oh and while im here, go download titans of the new west, thank me later
zipradox May 2, 2024 @ 11:10pm
Some mods like jip, stewieal tweaks, mod configuration, iso, uio, xnvse (different than nvse), johnny guitar (yes this is the name of the mod) are a must download due to how many mods need them. But please for the sake of Allah, do not randomly download them all in one go and try to download them individually, start downloading mods from the individual needs mods (dont need other mods to function) to the other needs mods
Oh and here's a tip, everytime you download a mod try launching the game, this way when your game doesn't work you can just disable the recently downloaded mods
Do be warned that some mods may break models after 30 minutes or so, through my experience nvac can break some of the npc's arms and it wouldn't be a problem if it doesn't happen in combat

People saying no are out of their minds, just get vanilla plus style stuff. Absolutely no reason to deal with the bugs and performance issues.
BCFreeman May 3, 2024 @ 12:07am
I'm still playing vanilla. It's all good. I just use the anti-crash when loading saves mod for AMD, because that's a game breaker (can't play game, lol). Though I occasionally get some random crashes here and there.

For first playthrough? No.

But I'd still recommend getting current set of fixes/patches, than not only fix bugs, but more importantly fix engine related issues. That engine was outdated even by 2010 standards.

Follow this guide, up to Base Finish which is where patching part ends.

YES. But start with the ones that fix things up. Make it into what I like to call 'vanilla-plus'.

Of course you usually need to play a game to know what you want to mod into it, but don't forgo fixes just because of some namby pamby excuse like "you need to play it the way it was intended".

Don't put the developers on a pedestal and feel like you need to deal with things like crashes and forced mouse acceleration because of some notion that it is part of the devs perfect vision or something.

How to know what bugs to fix? The important ones will also be some of the most downloaded items on any games nexus.

NV is perfectly fine to play with little changes, as long as it is actually working properly. The good news is that a lot of mods can be slotted in mid-playthrough if you change your mind later, and some can even be taken out, but use common sense.
Don't for example try to mod in a different player home if it replaces a home that you still have things stored in. In that situation you could probably (emphasis on probably, not definitely) be able to console command your way back into the OG home to retrieve your belongings but it isn't worth the trouble.

Worst advice ive read in a long time
mezzicstorm May 3, 2024 @ 6:06am
why? it works. It's very Modular from a Vanilla + feel to a heavily modified setup. The two best guides are VivaNewVegas and the BestofTimes. Viva for just pure bugfixing. I like both Fallout 3 and NV, so TTW works and to be fair I have only had 2 hard crashes with my mod setup in a 12 hour playthrough so far. To each their own.

107 mods is not "Vanilla +". Even if it was, you have mods that completely change the graphics, gameplay, add totally new questlines, and you literally have porn mods in your list.

OP doesnt even have Fallout 3 so why would you recommend him to play TTW?
