Villified with Great khans but they don't attack?

If I'm villified with the Great Khans shouldn't they be attacking me on sight? Are they just more civilised than factions like the powder gangers? They just swear at me instead. Make disguising as them feel pretty pointless.

Yes it does seem this way. I can slaughter all their leaders and half their tribe then freely wonder around them without being attacked. Even without a disguise. It's impossible to make them an enemy.

What reputaiton does that give you? One worse than villified? I need to do even more to them?

Do you have good karma? As at least for me if i have good karma none of the factions ever go to shoot on site unless it's the legion.

How can I have good karma if I'm villified with them? Can I see karma separately in the pip boy? The only positive thing I ever did for them was taking Melissa's quest but then it all went badly for her after that.
