Crash On Starting New Game
I load up the game and go to start up a new game and it crashes to desktop, I thought it might be mod related to I re installed it to vanilla, and still doing it? not sure why or how to fix it, anyone?

Uninstalling doesn't always remove mods.

On steam, "verify integrity of game files" will often remove things that shouldn't be in the game folder, though that too, doesn't always remove mods.

Might have to go figure out how to remove the mod from the mod's documentation.

Thing is, I removed everything, its a fresh vanilla copy.

Same, I have this game on Game pass and Epic, none worked. I read the steam one worked so I purchased it. It does not work either. I will try 7 more times and ask for a refund. Nothing seems to make it work on W11. I have a super fresh W11 by the way. I haven't tempered with anything yet, fresh install.

So you started modding before even playing once? That's unwise. Get the game running, then worry about mods. Or was it a working game, that stopped working?

95 times in 100 if the menu shows fine, and clicking new games starts to work, the backwards zooming away from the moon picture video is playing, but if you abort the video or let it finish, you immediately crash, it's your W10/11 DirectX9 support (or lack thereof)

Go get DXVK, here. https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases/ grab latest release. open the dxvk-###.tar.gz and go into the /dxvk-###/x32/ directory. Open a file explorer window and go to FNV, wherever you installed steam, to the steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas directory (where FalloutNV.exe and FalloutNVLauncher.exe are)

Drag d3d9.dll from the archive and drop it into the game folder. and see if you can run the game.

re: slow down, do you, in 2024, not have Vulkan installed?! I didn't think it needed mentioning that to use DirectX for VulKan you might actually need Vulkan, Sorry, that was my bad, I assumed. You should get incredible performance boost, a modern GPU running 1920x1080 is nearly idle running this game at 60fps...

but glad you got it working.

I have the exact same issue. Steam says one missing file when trying to fix it.

if you patch your .exe, then it won't match what the original steam thinks it should be, and if you let it repair it, you got to start over, do it all again. keep that in mind.

ya but its happening with pure vanilla, with no mods applied, just cleaning it all out and running it vanilla. Also something is wrong since even GOG version crashes at same point.

Watch your game time. Steam will refund, no questions asked, after only about 2hrs of gameplay. After that, they might not refund.

And for clarity, it's however steam counts the time, which for some games just means time spent with the launcher open..

Oh, for getting it to run, I've got win 10 and run it without mods. The only tool I use for it is the graphics card software. It noticed new vegas right away (which surprised me since it doesn't always know older games) and I was able to easily set it to my desired graphic level, and play without much issue.
