unplayable and cant fix. i give up :'(
I can't play fallout new Vegas on Xbox or steam. I get stuck in endless loading screens for literal hours and i have to restart my computer to do anything, cannot even task manager. if that doesn't happen it just closes its self. I've reinstalled and verified files. ive trouble shoot compatibility mode, i apparently cant learn how to use mods either. its the only game i can come to when I'm having a bad day.

GAME NEEDS UPDATES NOW!!!!

P.S. I've tried this game on 2 different computers, one made in 2022 and the other i built at the end of 2023. cant play on Xbox or Xbox cloud & cant play on Steam :VGRUMPY: :steamsad:
Never tried any cloud options...not sure why steam versions would work on xbox...

Regarding endless loading screens, I mean, if it takes more than maybe 30 seconds to load, alt+tab and tell steam to shut it down. If that doesn't work, restart (alt+ctrl+del and go to the option to restart the PC). It usually works again after than.

As for compatibility, I use https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/ and it knows what settings to set the game to.

Plays really well without mods, for me.

If you followed Viva New Vegas it all your issues would go away within like an hour. Instead of waiting in vain for an update that will never come, do the work yourself. Save yourself so much time and future headaches if you just drop the taboo of using mods.

Have you tried the memory patcher? It's technically for mod support but it sometimes fixes the base game.

Something tells me you haven't tried getting more invasive.

This. It's vital. I've been playing a House Run of New Vegas for the past couple of weeks, and the game was finicky as hell until I remembered to install this.

Also, I just have to assume that you're modding, right? Are you using NMC? DO NOT use the large version. Those textures are so damn big they kill the memory of the game engine and crash everything right from the startup. Use the medium.

maybe turn on view/show file extensions in file explorer
or use the search function in file explorer

on windows
falloutnv.exe and falloutnvlauncher.exe are in the steam game folder.
right clicking on both on my win 11 has compatibility options

might check your antivirus log.
might check windows security/controlled folder access. if on add exceptions for the game

running windows one drive? one drive moves the .ini settings files out of your
Documents\My Games\FalloutNV folder
turn off one drive or learn how to use exclusions

game came out in 2010. try monitor =60Hz and fps=60 instead of unlimited for both.

the thought occurs he's trolling, what he describes is what happens to people who build computers from a scrap heap of discarded components, then hack unlicenced windows, flash random BIOSes to GPUs, install firmware and microcode not meant for your hardware, and so forth...

looking at his posting history his computer seems a nightmare and his technical skills nonexistent... every single post is a complaint about not getting something to work. Is anyone really this tragic?

seriously, can't get task manager up, as if any game has that ability to interfere with it in a modern windows system, since W1 or even WfW era, where task isolation and hardware abstraction not even a concept yet. And on two recent builds back-to-back? what are the odds?

that he can't get the xbox version running is suspect too, when consoles are set devices. you can find an NES or Atari and carts at a yard sale, as as long as everything's in good working order, plug it in and turn it on and play games from before you were born. (the hardest part is finding an HDTV with composite or antenna/RF input to hook it to, you have to buy a converter...)

I mean he said he gives up. why post if you give up? we don't care you gave up. we do care if you're wanting help, though. Perfect bait for us "helpful types".

Even nick'd himself as a big phallus, just saying.

WTF, I did build my PC and its definitely not from scrap. The game use to work but doesn't all of a sudden. The only way I can play is if I use Xbox game pass on my phone. How about you try to help people instead of calling them hackers, you're toxic AF.

They're trolling you. Having said that, looking at your post history, you are getting a phenomenal amount of crashes / failures to start in a variety of games. Could be a hardware / driver issue. In the past... 14 years, I've had two games fail on me, Civilization: Beyond Earth, and Starfield. That's across two gaming rigs and multiple upgrades.

I don't see fallout exe.
Is fallout application the same as exe? I had about 10 minutes of gameplay on a old character and new when I set my graphics from ultra to high but still got the endless loading screen at some point. I have cloud on so I can go from desktop to laptop but I'll check my one drive when I get home.
cheshirm Feb 8, 2024 @ 1:23am
since 2010 on win me, then win 7, then win 10, and now win 11
the game executables FalloutNV.exe and FalloutnNVLauncher.exe have been in folder
...\steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas

What I meant was that the game doesn't work on Xbox's PC app or steam. I own it for both but no good and Xbox cloud streaming has only worked a few times. When I get stuck in a loading screen I can't alt tab or task manager it. I have to Ctrl Alt del to reset Everytime.
I'm starting to wonder if my graphics card is Fighting my integrated graphics. I have nvidia driver updater and amd adrenaline, both up to date. One of my friends suggested that my OS is on the wrong SSD.
