its not so much the crashes that i have an issue with, its the being stuck and being forced to restart my pc sometimes
I'm just guessing here, mind you.
In my experience, those crashes tend to come from a missing master, corrupted save/cell or from an error related to alt-tabbing in the first place. Check your load order, make sure everything is kosher there. Unfortunately NVAC doesn't catch everything. I'm hoping that the update (which was only a few kbs on my end) didn't somehow break mod compat, as TTW is a pain in the ass to install. With that small of an update, I can't think of much it really could have done, outside of maybe resetting your archive invalidation or messing with your inis, that would have caused problems.
NVAC does nothing without FOSENV, iirc, and FOSENV should refuse to launch, popping a warning, if there is a version mismatch.
