Map auto move to gamepad(360 controller)
How would you go about mapping auto move to the right/left analog stick or right/left bumpers?

Items not up for discussion:
- Go use the mouse and keyboard filthy casual
- Only casuals of the filthy kind use gamepads for FPS games
- You are part of the PC master race, if you want to use a gamepad go play a console
- A mouse can aim way better than a gamepad
- Gamepads are for xx or yy
- The game was meant to be played with a mouse and keyboard

I know, lots of information to take in about my question, sorry I couldnt be more concise.

No offence, but I'm not surprised nobody has helped yet with your sarcastically offensive post. Leave the master race/console wars ♥♥♥♥ to IGN and Youtube comments.

You could have a fiddle with your Fallout.ini or FalloutPrefs, located in:

C:\Users\You\Documents\my games\FalloutNV

Not sure if there are any options in their for a controller. The game isn't great for rebinding controls as is and the controller support is pretty limited, so if there isn't anything in the Pref files or in the games options menu then not much you can do other than open this mod:

http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/55604/?

And see how they've done it and try and modify it yourself.

I've raised this question a few times since NV came out and the conversation generally goes off topic into one of those prompts.

FNV Custom Joypad Config is as close to an answer that I have found, unfortunately it has the user install a joystick input to keyboard command converter(JoyToKey_en_5.5.1) then have the user change in game keys to match the keyboard commands that the j2k converter sends.

The falloutprefs does have a section for controls, where you can input what you want. From there it's a guessing game with a near infinite number of possibilities concerning the identity of the hex codes for gamepad buttons. I can't seem to find a config file that holds information about gamepad bindings.

thanks for the response dude, you're not so bad :D

Any other ideas?

I'm all out, sorry mate. You could try a third party program like xpladder or whatever it's called. I have one similar for Diaspora to map keyboard keys to a controller.

hi, Sure,not.
i was searching for a solution for this same issue. did you ever figure something out?
Vagrant Dec 21, 2014 @ 1:21pm
I think the problem is that when you decide to use a controller, the game's engine cuts off any keyboard function. To make things worse, the console is disabled.

So any keyboard functions probably cannot be mapped to the controller.

This problem was solved in Skyrim. Look for a mod called "Kontrol" on the Steam Workshop. It does exactly what you want for NV's controller... Auto-move, quick save, 8 hotkeys instead of 2... I'm just sad this wasn't ever made for the Fallouts, mainly because it's not possible because of the old engine.

No. By the time I had started searching for an answer, the FNV player base was already niche non-modding enthusiast type, so no custom development was being done on parts of the engine pertaining to controls/binding/gamepad setup. I did a fairly extensive search on the topic around June and I can generally read through and edit game .ini and script files, but I never found any exposed interpreter based code that allowed for remapping controls. The module for remapping controls is hard coded in, you would need to decompile/recompile that module then debug whatever problems your edits had caused.

-"The falloutprefs does have a section for controls, where you can input what you want. From there it's a guessing game with a near infinite number of possibilities concerning the identity of the hex codes for gamepad buttons."-

Theoretically you could locate a "hex code map" of in game user accessible functions then manually remap whichever hex code to the desired button. For example, in the falloutprefs: gamepad button = 0x00023F, where 0x00023F would be associated with toggling autorun in engine.

-"I can't seem to find a config file that holds information about gamepad bindings."-

I have not found any kind of publicly available "hex code map" for FNV.

My conclusion is the developers specifically blocked binding autorun to a gamepad button. Lack of any dialog in response to this issue, then a later version of the engine having the ability to perform this rebind speaks to me about the financial turmoil of video game development. Seemingly there is little incentive to add or modify features in an aging product.

Can't help, because I agree with everything on your "Items not up for discussion" list.
