karma question
does karma get lowered by the number of things you steal or by the act itself. what I mean is do I lose the same karma as stealing 1 scrap metal and take all the content in a crate?

For stealing an item from the world it's per item. From a container I'm p sure it's just a single penalty from opening and looting one, not per item in the crate.

so basically whether you take one item or take all (within a crate) results in the same karma loss. hmm
Karma in this game is like Reddit karma, it hardly matters, more importance on the relationships, between the factions.

Heh, nope. It's a loss of karma per individual act of stealing.
If you steal all the items in a box one at a time exiting the container between each act of stealing your karma will drop for each single act where you took at least one item. But if you take it all in one go then the game only counts that as one act of stealing.

So if you want to play the "bad guy" it's pretty much the only sure fire option I know of to make sure it, stays, down, there.
Because the moment you go shoot five random feral ghouls in the face then you're back to being humanities savor all over again :steamfacepalm:.

I really want to see a karma effect list because the only two things I know karma effects are the level 50 perks and Beyond the Beef.

Cass will leave or not join if you have bad karma and the ending slides for the 4 main factions change based on your karma. I think that's about it though

Cass will leave an evil character and there's the slightly different ending slides as pointed out above, and there's supposedly a unique dialogue option for Legate Lanius that I haven't seen. Big whoop.

Overall, karma might as well not exist. It's a dumb mechanic, it hardly affects anything, and the values are bugged and inconsistent.

Yes someone on the TK Mantis discord has pointed out that is basically just a ripped out version of the Fallout 3 rep checks.

Most of time it just added flavor when you get the condescending devil man face after convincing a man to end his life.

Yeah. Karma barely means anything in this game, suppose it makes sense in the post-apoc.
What you need to worry about alot more is faction/town reputation.

Really?Never knew this considering in most of my playthroughs i either have good karma from killing fiends, feral ghouls and legionaries or let Jean-Baptiste have his little chat with her.

In vanilla, it isn't easy in the first place to have neutral, or bad karma. Unless you really go out of your way for it. Karma could've been removed without making a diffirence to the game.

Fallout 3 was all about the Karma system. Factions existed, but weren't used much. If you ticked off the Slavers or the Outcasts, they'd remember. There WAS a faction system. But Karma was the big deal in 3. Running Neutral Karma was actually the more difficult route, and there were perks you could only take with certain Karma, IIRC.

New Vegas feels like they started to implement the karma system and then gave up halfway through. You get positive karma every time you kill a ghoul. Anyone running around worried about evil karma isn't doing much about it.

Didn't killing Fiends effect Karma as well? I haven't played in like half a decade now.

Anyways, NV obviously went all in on Factions instead. It isn't perfect, but the idea of disguises is quite good.

Yes cleansing Vault 3 is a gold way to get Messiah karma even if you're just there to deliver drugs to the local warlord.
