Endless updates
I last played Fallout NV in February 2022. At the start of this year, I started getting small updates for it on a weekly, and sometimes even daily basis: there must have been at least thirty so far (I've counted five in the last week alone). All these updates are around a meg in size - some are a bit bigger (the largest I've seen was 15 megs). None of them has any explanatory text saying what they are.

I've seen other people asking about this and getting supercilious answers along the lines of "it's just Steam doing Steam stuff", which is all well and good, but if that were the case, why wouldn't I be seeing the same sort of thing with any of the other hundred-odd games I have installed? It only happens (for me at least) with Fallout NV.

I'd be interested to get to the bottom of what these updates are and why they happen so often. Anyone got any ideas that aren't rude or dismissive?

You need to give your computer's specs information like what version of windows before saying things that frustrate you.

Otherwise, they'll just give you a link to viva.

I have fnv4gb patch, try getting that.

And try replacing your Fallout.ini files - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PovLIMsb7V8&t=77s&ab_channel=DarkPopulous

And install the Yukichigai Unofficial Patch (YUP) on Nexus Mods for Fallout New Vegas

This is nothing to do with the game itself. When I check the dates, nothing has changed since the last time I played the game at the start of last year, so these "updates" clearly aren't actually updates at all. I'm just curious why Steam seems to be downloading some kind of internal information about FNV so frequently when it doesn't do it for any other of my games.

And for the record, Windows 10 H22, modern system, no other issues of any kind.

steam probably checking that the file on your FNV folder have different checksum and try to update it

Ignore Corona Varus, hes a troll. The updates are just something you have to live with. Im personally not exactly sure what it updates but we have have atleast 1 person every week complain / ask about it on the Forum.

It's not just fallout. I have many games that get these random ghost updates and someone in those forums every week or two asking what they are. It's just steam being steam
cheshirm Mar 24, 2023 @ 2:19am
for the endless updates, click on steam settings/downloads -> clear download cache
then steam verify game files. perhaps a download did not finish updating

for small downloads no one else gets, do a web search on steam shader precaching. steam settings - bottom of list of options, you probably have it turned on

you can always go to folder
...\steam\logs
and wade thru the logs with the same timestamp (or newer) as your update. try content_log.txt for one. then you will know what was downloaded/updated on your pc

Every game does that anyways.
Also, this is not a place to discuss about things that aren't Fallout related. Move to Steam Discussion instead.

Context - why?: This is just a normal Steam issue with tiny updates disguised as a Fallout New Vegas post.

Have you seen the traffic around here? Nobody cares if somebody asks a question like this once in a while. Besides, the Steam discussions ain't Google or Steam Support so obviously that's stupid.

Yeah, they should just contact Steam Support rather than ask about it in discussions. Or if they want to *off-topic post they should post it in Off-Topic or in the Steam Discussion if it's steam-related discussion posts.

The tiniest update always happens when I open the game and it doesn't have any issues. It's just the GAME saving their SAVE FILE in their STEAM CLOUD.

Then why asking a question about Fallout NV modding a problem in here? I mean, not like I expect you to answer that in good faith given that you suggest Off-Topic of all places and you know as much as I do how much of a ♥♥♥♥ hole that is.

You really didn't expect somebody to use that BS back at you am I right? ;)

Man, that is stupid on so many level. I don't even use that guide nor promote it. I just manually installed my crap and used FOMM to change the load order. Hell, it's the only thing I need a manager for and thats only because I dont want to mess around with dates. [Assuming it still work like morrowind in this regard.]

I'm not even in your hateboning fanclub. I'm just an outsider also telling you that you act like a bossy ass. So, that reply is rather tone deaf and hilarious.

That site only wants fame and money. It doesn't even help new players and just scares them to refund the game.
Proof 1: Asking for donation https://i.imgur.com/aE95wE1.jpg
Proof 2: On the site "If it doesn't work, it's on you".
Proof 3: They don't elaborate further

They should at least give the users who want to mod the game more context OR if only Bethesda would fix this issue in Windows 10 and Bill Gates owned Bethesda and they still won't fix it.

They're all at Fallout 76. No one really likes the Sim City quests for Fallout 4 and everyone who likes Sim City or the Sims 4 only likes those, they aren't going to improve anything. They're working on something but what if it fails like the next Halo game?

Don't believe me that Fallout 5 will fail or whatever they'll release 5 years later? -

Fallout 3 - 4.7
Fallout New Vegas - 4.8
Fallout 4 - 3.4
