You can replace the launcher exe with nvse's exe, that worked for me in the past. Or the 4gb patch should integrate it into the game exe. Or you can replace it with a mod manager like Wyre Bash, then use it to launch nvse. Wyre Bash seems to work well under wine. Anyways, what file format does the steam deck format to? ext4? Well, proton doesn't seem to like when 2 files or folders exist with the same name, but different case, it'll work just ignore the other ones. Bit annoying but keep that in mind. Theres probably a program out there to,... i guess you could just format a partition 32 gb's exfat or whatever you can spare, copy paste it there, and boom problem solved. Just thought i'd say that, Linux things not steam deck things.
When installing it manually like I did you have to activate the according option in the .ini file.
