game is only using 2gb of memory despite using 4gb patch
my game is supposedly 4gb aware, but task manger only reads 2gb of memory usage, the game stutters like hell and crashes in demanding areas, using nvhr causes "out of memory" errors and sometimes causing the game to not even load in and crashing instead
how do i fix this?

While the 4gb patch *technically* allows the game to be large address aware, the support is still limited.

The issue is, when using texture packs, is that by default the game mirrors everything contained in VRAM (textures, mainly) into system RAM, causing the game to run out of memory. NVTF fixes this issue by disabling the mirroring behavior.

LOOT is also broken and ineffective for New Vegas. The masterlist has never been updated, so it's basically a random shuffle. Unless you learn how to patch mods yourself, avoid adding any plugins outside of Viva New Vegas unless you have consulted someone with experience (the VNV discord is a great place to start). Checking for and patching conflicts is actually pretty simple, and is the best way to get a large stable modlist.

did you install and activate the 4gb patch correctly?

i cant be certain, i downloaded the patch, threw it in the directory and ran it as administrator, just like it told me to, i forgot to mention that everytime i ran it again it "confirms" that the game is already patched

i ran it without the patch and it gave me a c++ error on launch

Yeah you have way too many mods. The game only allows ~135 plugins before problems happen. The mod limit fix can be found on the nexus allows 255 plugins but with big retextures like poco bueno and nutscape you're still going to run into memory issues.

So what are the other 120+ mods? Retextures?

Which directory did you put the patch in? The root folder or the data folder?

Also, are you using the right patcher? https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/62552

content mods, overhauls, reanimations, visuals, structure redesigns and such

the root folder

yes i use the one given in the viva new vegas guide

the mods themselves are pretty clean, but the plugin load order may need some work since i use loot to sort it but manually putting some things at the bottom

I tried looking online for reasons why the task manager wouldn't show NV using 4gb patch and I couldn't find anything. Everything leads to installation errors or similar. The only thing I could find that may be of use is perhaps your antivirus is causing issues with the mods. I know for a while my antivirus wouldn't allow me to install xNVSE.

Have these issues just started? I see you have many hours in this game but when did you start modding?

My only other guess is you have some mod(s) messing with things. Only recommendation would be to restart your modding and only install a handful at a time so you can see which ones work. Start with only the utilities from VNV just to make sure they all work for you before adding other stuff.

they have started ever since i started a new game with some other new mods

none of the mods i use are conflicting with eachother, some are but theyre pretty subtle and small and arent gamebreaking at all

remember, the only issue i have is stuttering, crashing and memory usage, best thing you could help me fix aside from the the 4gb patch is the c++ runtime error i mentioned previously because i just remembered the 4gb patch wont help much on a gpu with 2gb of vram, if you cant then i guess all thats left for me is a fresh start

forgot to add: the error happens without the mods aswell so the mods are unrelated

Ram and vram are different. The 4gb patch only allows regular ram to increase from 2 to 4, which is the cause of memory related crashes. Vram is more about what resolution you can play on. How much regular ram do you have?

Stuttering and crashing can be minimalized by following the VNV guide, which you stated you followed. So if you're still experiencing issues you need to wipe you game and start from scratch. Like I said before stick with purely the utilities section until you get everything right.

What are your PC specs?

GTX 750 ti 2gb
i5 4570
16gb ram

previously thought the 4gb patcher allows 4gb of vram instead of ram, thinking about just waiting till i get the new gpu ive been planning on getting, that being an rx 470 8gb or something similar if its out of stock
