Lucky Shades question

How exactly can you obtain the Lucky Shades from Caesar’s Legion without siding with the Legion until the end? I have read some guides explaining how to do so, but I tried and couldn’t find the quests that players mention.

You can pickpocket NCR dog tags from troopers and turn them over to Aurelius at Cottonwood Cove.

It'll take some time, but it's probably the only way to do it without going all-in with the Legion, seeing as they have very few quests.

Once you got your reputation reset from Caesar, if you talk to Lucius and Vulpes they both have quests that give Legion fame once you complete them. You can also speak to Otho who can set up a bunch of gladiator matches for you, so long as you're male. Finally, giving information to Decanus Severus at Cottonwood will increase your rep. None of these choices affect NCR or House reputations so you can easily betray the Legion after you get the key.

Okay. What happened is that I completed Ring-a-Ding Ding baby, Benny got away, the chairmen attacked and I survived. Vulpes gave me the mark of Caesar. Now my Pip-boy is nagging me to go to Cottonwood cove. If I meet with Caesar, can I somehow decline the quests that lead to the end of the game? And still do quests with Lucius and Vulpes and Otho?

The only faction you will have to cross swords with would be Mr. House, as Caesar wants him out of the game pretty much instantly. If you're not going for that particular route, you can do quite a few quests for the Legion.

Also, don't worry about going too far, as the game gives you a big warning for when you are close to hitting the point of no return in the form of a quest called "Don't Tread on the Bear".

That’s good to know. Because I am trying to complete as many Steam achievements as possible in one play through. By “bending time”. Which means saving at specific times before going too far with any one faction. Or if that is too much to handle, at least complete 50%-70% of the achievements in one play through if possible. But I need to know when to hit the brakes with each faction, before going too far.

To be honest, I’m really just going for the Lucky Shades, sniper rifle, and stealth boys, and Maria, Benny’s gun. I’m loosely following the guide OP Sniper crit …pistol build by God. He/she is all about Maria, Lucky shades, sniper rifle, COS sniper rifle, pew pew, ALSID, YCS-186. He says those weapons are all you need.

you need to get "Liked" reputation with the legion, then speak with Lucius at Caesars tent. he'll give you the key to the safehouse. after that you can do whatever you want and side with another faction

Okay, thanks. I will start pickpocketing NCR soldiers for dog tags. I can get four from the corpses of NCR soldiers that are in a house in Nipton. (I found them in an earlier save).
