Light step makes the proximity sensors useless, and it might take you a bit. You can learn the routing for the robots and shut them down fairly easy with trial and error.
It's a little hard to explain it as it's become almost muscle memory after so many years of playing NV.
Just take time and learn the placements of everything, or even watch a video if you really get desperate for help with locating things.
Link to the wiki which should hopefully help you.
How high is your sneak? You want good sneak in order to get up behind the robots and get close enough to deactivate them. If you don't have good enough sneak, you'll probably have to use a stealth boy or two. Even if you have good sneak, just burning the stealth boy lets you complete the challenge much, much faster, what with being able to deactivate robots from the front.
Also no-clip won't stop the detection, tdetect would be the command to stop AI from noticing you at all.
