Alt tab has always broken Bethesda engine games, from morrowind to new Vegas to Skyrim. They all are fixed with a script extender plugin, but by default you don't alt tab these games
If you are running an nVidia GPU, the flip mode instructions should be your ultimate goal.
This also allows me to alt-tab out of the window since i cant do it even with Stewie teaks/NVSE
I gave you the solution.
haven't tried it in vegas though
Unless you use borderless window or a script extender fix, alt tab can do many things ranging from crashing the game to breaking scripts (In which case you don't even notice anything is broken until an NPC gets stuck in a loop or a quest breaks).
SE might be fine, I don't remember what they changed in the renderer.
Glad it helped :D
