Fallout can't run fullscreen mode
I have Nvidia Optimus technology which means an Intel integrated card and an Nvidia card. To get games to use my Nvidia card I have to set my PC to extend display over two monitors. Since doing this I cannot play fallout in fullscreen mode, but windowed mode works just fine; but I'm only allowed 800x600 or 1280x760 for windowed, but I want to play either fullscreen 1366x768 or borderless windowed @ 1366x768. any help?

Hmm....try looking your falloutPrefs file stored in you fallou NV directory not steam in your document is what you will be looking for and after that you searched the file try changing your screen resolution settings there. If doesn't help at all...you might want to try searching in the forum for other threads having the same issue.Making a new one thread won't help at all.

I have the integrated intel card and the nvidia card as well and im having the same problem. When i play fullscreen with the nvidia it plays the main menu music but i cant see the actual game even if i alt+tab to it. In windowed mode it works. The way i fixed this for FFXIV was to play in borderless windowed, however FNV doesnt look like it offers bordlerless windowed so im at a loss.

That's bizarre. Could it possibly be a driver issue? I have Optimus too but the game always runs through my Nvidia card no problem.

I managed to tweak the game through the ini. There's actually a lot of people who have issues with their nvidia card being detected in games if they have optimus technology.

I did too, but it was a case of my drivers. The latest ones fix the problem of a lot of games not recognising the Nvidia card, and you can force a game to run through the card regardless.

Do you mean the latest beta driver, or official one?

Official one.

have you tried setting the nvidia gpu as primary and disabling the intel in the mobo bios ?
before you do it , check nvcp , update drivers , bla, bla , bla , go to manufaturers website and read the instructions on how to do it that they recommend ,
also bare in mind that if you have a weak nvidia gpu you might be worse off than using the intell , so check its specs before you do anything

well good news, theres a mod that worked perfectly for me that basically runs FNV in borderless windowed which solved my problem perfectly. Here is the link, and make sure to read the install instructions and the readme if you download it to make sure its installed correctly : http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/42956/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fnewvegas%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D42956&pUp=1
If the link doesnt work, the mod is called Game Companion its by BUDA20, and its on the FNV nexus. Hope this helps!

I had this problem just now. Windows 10 user. I've played the game lots in the past but haven't played for over half a year, and on startup today it's re-checking my system specs and is now not running in full screen mode.

SOLUTION:

1. If you don't know what your resolution is, go to your desktop, right click, click on "Display Settings" and it should be there front and center. Mine said 1680x1050. Well guess what? The game had reset my old settings when it re-checked my specs.

2. Click to open game, click on "Options" in the opening interface, and un-check "windowed mode". I do have "Vertical Sync" checked though. Caution: doing this will again reset your game resolution if you've already set it correctly. Make sure you look at the resolution drop-down bar again and ensure it's set to yours.

3. Click okay, then start the game as usual. It should now be full screen.

In short, whenever the game does that system re-check thing (like when you haven't played in a long time), it also resets all of the settings to default. You may then not be able to load the game in full screen view. Resetting your resolution should restore it to full screen.

Guys..just finished having this same problem, Idk if yall occasionally connect your system to various monitors, but MAKE SURE YOUR MONITOR IS THE ONLY ACTIVE MONITOR.
Right Click Desktop>Screen Resolution>Multiple Displays>Select "Show Desktop Only on Monitor 1"
