Find the key? But if you don't want to do that, then do this:

1) Save the game before you do anything
2) Open the console and then click the door with the mouse
3) Type "unlock" without quotes
4) Exit the console
5) Save the game
6) Exit and restart the game so that you can obtain achievements again

Without using the console, there are two reasons why it says requires key. 1. Somewhere in the vault or building you're in there is a key card you need to open the door. 2. You need to progrees farther into the quest and a NPC or a computer hack will open the door for you.

In NV there are places where the door you want to open can't be accessed from the side of the door you are on. You have to find a way around to the other side and open it from there. That sometimes requires you to go to a different level of the building or vault and work your way back to the opposite side of the door.

as ronr42 stated , thats a good way to break quests /break the game ,they are locked and need a key for a reason , you might miss a important encounter by bypassing the lock , or a quest , any number of triggers that set events in motion
then you'll be here bad-mouthing the devs for their "broken" game , when all along it's you who broke it
needless to say , find the key , let the story play out as it was designed to

That doesn't work. If you use console then save, it breaks achievements for that entire playthrough

No, you can use console, then save. He's right. All you have to do is restart the game. I can confirm because I've had to no clip a few times before.

Anytime you use the console for NV it disables achievements for that one session. After using it close out the game and restart it, achievements will work again.

i do believe this is why a large number of people complain that there game is broke , they break it themselves , the console is not your friend , it's there for a reason , and the reason isnt to make the game easyier ,

just play the game , you bought it ,play it , you only cheat yourself , figure it out , rather than just bypassing ,
you are so worried about the achievements and making sure you can get them after using the console , but think ,,,, you cheated , you dont deserve the achievement ,

but i guess , thats how it works today , cheat , lie , get the reward ,

You use a lot of commas, lol. Achievements mean squat anyway. If a person wants to cheat, let them. They have the right to do that. If they end up ruining their game, then oh well.

This applies in real life, not in videogames. Get your priorities in order dude.

A cheater in a game doesn't make a cheater in real life. That's an assumption that is not always true. It's easy to break the game with the console yea, but something like breaking it by unlocking a door can be easily fixed by loading an older save or going back and relocking it with 255. Just saying.

Gotta agree with this.
