Is there a way to see what mods are compatible with each other besides waiting for a crash?
I'm going to install Tale of Two Wastelands, but I'm wondering if the other mods I'm interested in would work for it. Also, how many mods is too many?

95% of modern mods will tell you if it will work with TTW either in the description or in the comments if you ask.

FNVEdit can be used to find conflicts between two mods and allow you to make your own patching.

Besides that, use your best judgment. If you are downloading 2 mods that do similar things, odds are they aren't compatible.

Conflicts rarely cause crashing. It just causes bugs in the game world, like finding multiple npcs in a spot if you have 2 mods that add that npc to that area. Clipping or faulty textures is a common issue with conflicts as well.

If you're crashing after the game boots up you're missing a mod master. Take extra care to read mod descriptions thoroughly. If you're crashing in random spots more frequently you are using too many mods. If you're crashing repeatedly in the same area it's a problem with the mod.

~135 is the maximum amount of plugins you can have before the game gets out of control. This limit can be raised to 255 with the mod limit fix mod however.

Thank you. I’ve never heard of a mod master. I assumed if the game wouldn’t start it was because of a mod conflict.

I’m mainly interested in adding more quest mods, (World of Pain, Beyond Boulder Dome, NV Bounties, etc.)

Could I download all the mods and only activate the ones I want to use and have it run properly? Figure I’ll have a playthrough with TTW and one with the quest mods if they’re not compatible.

I’ve also never heard of FNVEdit, time to do some research.

Mod Organizer 2 shows conflicts among loose files (and I am pretty sure nexusmods' sponsored manager Vortex does as well).

edit: and MO2 allows you to disable individual files within a mod as well.

Alot of bigger quest mods are broken and outdated. Use the Viva New Vegas guide it should list modern remakes of those mods. I dont think Beyond Boulder Dome has a remake though. A World of Pain I know does and Bounties is currently being remade. I dont know what one's are already released.

Don't use NMM, use MO2 or Vortex if you are lazy

Sounds good. I just figured if you can't download to MO2 the from Nexus website it would be more difficult for a non-tech saavy guy like myself.

I reckon I could install them all manually with a guide and uplaod it to MO2. (Seems like a lot of mods have certain ways they need you to install it if you opt for the manual option.)

Installed TTW a few days ago, noticed loot will help to point out some conflicts too, which is pretty handy as I wouldn't have noticed it installs its own YUP files specifically for tale of two wastelands.

I use vortex and it's working just fine with TTW, skyrim, fo4, feel free to use vortex and keep things easy and simple
