Stupid Character Worth Playing
We all know how funny it was in the first two games to play as a character with low intelligence. Admit it, you found it hilarious when we out-stupid Harry at the Watershed. Or how exasperated the Overseer got when we returned the waterchip. In Fallout 3, there was practically no low-intelligence dialogue, except for with Dean Dewey.

The producers brought back low intelligent dialogue in New Vegas. I've seen it on Youtube and it's quite hilarious! However, it isn't universal and is only with certain characters.

From what I have experimented with on the NV character planner, it's impossible to max all skills with low intelligence, even with all the skill books.

Has anyone ever played as a low intelligence character? Is it worth playing a stupid character or should I not bother?

I gotta admit Dwayne, this probably takes the cake for the "Oddest Question" I've ever seen in the forum LOL

I've played something like 3800 plus hours and I have never thought of being "dumb" as a character. In fact, I find the initial allowances made for "The Courier" are somewhat lacking in where I feel the experience levels and like would be for a "seasoned Courier". I am not ashamed to admit that I use console commands to "even things up a bit" from the point of view that The Courier is no 'wet-behind-the-ears' kid but someone who has been a Courier for some time.

Now, as for deliberately dumbing the character down... there has been, just lately, a discussion or two about how to set up the weirdest play-through of the game. I managed to incorporate a mash up of Imperial Stormtroopers vs. Jedi vs, Rebellion vs. Legion vs. everybody else where my character and companions had escaped from Area 51 as Star Trek characters... perhaps having a dumba** Federation Captain as their leader might be the cherry on the dessert, so to speak.

I will admit, it's an intriguing idea alright

Its really not THAT fun. I mean theres like maybe 20 lines of funny dialogue but i really dislike these "OMG YOU CAN PLAY AS A DUMB GUY IN FALLOUT NEW VEGAS!!!" type posts and videos that this fanbase just spams over and over.

I guess, when you've played thousands of hours as a "standard intelligence" character, the same options and choices presenting themselves over and over again, y'all kinda start looking for alternatives.

Like I said, I've NEVER found the initial allowable set-up of The Courier to be that plausible... so I tweak... this makes me wonder... if you had a Courier who was stronger than Hercules, had a greater endurance than Schwarzenegger in the movie "Predator" but was dumber than a box of hammers how far could you get in the game? I'm intrigued enough to try it out LOL

Maxing all skills is unnecessary, redundant and overrated anyway. There's nothing wrong with a low intelligence build

I completely agree that maxing all skills is unnecessary. The producers of this game clearly wanted to avoid what happened in Fallout 3. Maxing all skills is much more difficult as it would require certain perks, very high intelligence, using the Skilled exploit (fixed in YUP), and finding all the skill books. There's also no bobbleheads for raising skills like there was in 3, nor was there an Almost Perfect perk.

Of course, with low intelligence, Educated, Comprehension, Pack Rat, and Voracious Reader can't be taken. You'd have to max Strength, take both Strong Back and Burden To Bear to get more carry weight to afford the weight of ammo, unless you were making a hand-to-hand character. And all those extra stat points could also be put to good use maxing other stats, except for Charisma.

Its not hard to max all skills at all. Ive told you this about 9 times already in the multiple spam posts you made

There are lot 10 total stupid checks in NV, and none control unique quests and happenings, so it's strictly for flavor. Then again, playing a stupid character doesn't lock 90% of the game off to you.

Even after 1000+ hours I don’t think I’ve played a character lower than 8 INT before. But after thinking it through, I’m actually starting to wonder if it makes more sense to not run high INT

The strongest thing about INT is that you get additional skill points. Sure there’s other components such as increased exp and dialogue checks, but both of those can be overcome via consumables/items or just by killing/doing stuff more

However, throwing points at INT means not throwing points at other attributes, and when you consider that books can fill in for much of the skill points it kinda seems like a waste

I’ve had several runs where I’ve maxed out my skills before reaching level 50. So in those cases I probably could’ve run a lower INT and had access to more perks/better stats

Sorry, I find your response odder than the op's question. Plenty of RPGs have allowed for dumb characters and they can be a lot of fun once you've already finished the game. The best ones I can think of are Arcanum and Vampire Bloodlines (more crazy than dumb). Fallout 1 and 2 are quite good. NV is okay.
