There are TONS of deathclaws there so bring every thing you can to fight them. There is also some pretty rare loot to be found as well. A full set of T-51b power armour, the body of a set of Enclave armour (the only place to find it out side of a quest), and some enegry weapons (note the loot is found on a pair of bodys that may not appear when you first get there, but if you clear it out and then wait a few time you should get it to appear).
When I went there I used the unique minigun, and was in the mid-30s level wise, yet I still had an insanely hard time. The bugs I mentioned above have to do with the sheer number of deathclaws there.
You missed something unmarked, and all the way off to the side of the map. Don't beat yourself up about it.

Yeah it is sort of an easter egg for those who are really brave or really dumb, and like to explore.
