Vault 34 is horrible!
Seriously it's not even fun for me! I've spent 300 caps on radiation poising and have gone back there like 4 times but it's so damned frustrating. The glowing vault security ghouls are way OP and sometimes they even respawn! And on top of everything else, you have the radiation meter that's basically just a timer that says when ur done. Does anyone else agree?

It actually matters what your level is in this fallout.

Having a powerful shotgun is extremely useful due to the close quarters. Having both HP and AP ammo for your gun is also useful.

It may help to do the REPCONN test site questline first. You get the space suit out of it, and I think you also find a radiation suit (which can be used to repair the space suit, and the resulting item will have the radsuit's rad resistance) there.

Isn't Maria Bennies 9mm?

I believe they know that but if I recall with GRA it adds in a challenge where you have to kill ghouls with Maria, Gehenna, or Holy hand Grenades.

Basically any weapons that are religion based, Yes, holy hand grenades count.

Yes, I totally agree.. though the ghouls weren't a problem for me.

Between the constant radiation, the bad lighting and the fact that everything is 3 shades of grey... on top of the fact you have no clear indication of what you need to be doing to progress anything....

I spent over an hour wandering around in there.. spent *thousands* of caps woth of rad-x and radaway. I hope whoever designed that whole thing spends eternity in an endless grey maze as punishment for that horrible, horrible map design.

Not one single moment in there was fun.

Bonus points that when I finally finished everything it didn't give me any clear indication that I'd done anything. And the sharecroppers don't give any kind of hint that they notice any difference.

But the quest is marked as finished so whatever, I don't even care anymore. I hate that place with a seething passion.

Vault 34 is not meant to be fun, it's a radiated ghoul-infested hellvault. How in the world would you thinnk such a place would be fun is beyond me.

I did feel a sense of acomplishment when I first punched my way through all those ghouls as an Unarmed Specialist Courier. That plus hauling out all the loot from the over-stocked armory

I sold it all off at the gun runners booth and my net worth increased by about 2% since, at least for me, it was all nearly destroyed and virtually worthless. I think I literally could have gotten more caps by not going there at all and just selling all the radaway and rad-x I had on me before going.

I would have felt a sense of accomplishment if the people you were helping seemed to even notice a difference, but the way the quest works at the end left me feeling like I went through all that crap for nothing.

With no clearly defined end there was no sense of accomplishment or even relief that it was finally over - just confusion and annoyance. It's less like the quest ends and more like it just stops.

And again the ghouls weren't a problem. *They* didn't feel like a challenge at all. I was using Gehenna and they all died pretty quickly. With the narrow hallways in there it was like a ghoul corpse assembly line. All they really served to do was annoy me with interruptions.

(Honestly melee/unarmed is pretty cheese in this game. I use brass knuckles most of the time and the hardest part is closing distance on the ranged guys who backpedal while aiming a rifle faster than I can run forward. Occasionally I have to pull out a pistol and pop them in the leg to slow them down.)

The problem is the map design in Vault 34 is *terrible*.

And if it's not meant to be fun why the **** is it in my game? A well designed challenge should be both fun and rewarding. This was none of the above. Nothing in a game should be put there merely to be suffered through by the player.

Done this with a level 5 sneak based Courier. 11 bags of Rad Away, 2 Rad-X, and a few mines. If you suck get a companion to hold your hand. It's a handout of powerful weapons. It's not like it's dead wind cavern! Where 4 death claws can camp the exit.

Wait... isn't 34 the boomer vault where you find the all-american? How the hell can you get lost in there? It's not a maze. There's a bit of backtracking depending on your skill levels, but it's in no way hard to find your way around. Hell, if you find it that hard to figure out where you're going, bring some cateye. Makes it much easier to see.

Vault 34 is actually really easy, you just need a few things and perks :

Space Suit (40 radiation resistance)
Radaway
Rad Child Perk
10mm submachine gun (can be found inside the vault)

these ghouls carry 10mm ammo, rad child perk regenerates your health and take radaway before you die of radiation sickness.

If we are talking about weapons, you should carry a good shotgun (Lever-action; Hunting or "Dinner bell"; or Riot Shotgun) as being in a close quarter place makes them the best choice. Assault rifles or SMGs are a nice option too. Another advice: bring a Rocket Launcher for the overseer, the overseer is a Feral Ghoul Reaver on steroids and has to turrets to aid him, so a RPG should take down all of them or at least destroy the turrets and cause several damage to the overseer. On a final note: bringing mines won't hurt you.

But way more forgiving, yet this guy still says it's too hard lol. It isn't quite as cool as the Glow though.
