1st Recon Beret
So I'm doing an independent playthrough, so anti ncr, house, and legion, and since Boone won't talk to you at all if you have a bad rep with ncr, to get his quests, is there antoher way to get the beret he gives you?

No neeed to kiss up to Boone to get a red beret. My last PC got a red beret with the same bonuses as his with some long fuse dynamite in the back pocket of the Ten of Spades after those 1st Recon war crimminals had moved to Fort Forlorn Hope. My memory may be a little fuzzy but I don't think my PC took a rep hit with the NCR since the deed was undetected.

Also like Bot Rero said, you could also 'ICE' Manny but I would hold off on doing that until after you've finished with the 'Come Fly With Me' quest..

An independent play through doesn't necessarily mean pissing off the NCR or Legion, until you start the Wild Card quests. You can 'recruit' Boone by doing his quest, getting the beret, and just leaving him in Novac forever.

The Khauns had it coming.

Yeah its hard to argue that point. The Khans definitely had some retribution coming, but the NCR, amoral as the institurion is, should have followed up the Bitter Springs Massacre (clearly a strategic blunder on their part) by attacking and "Cleansing' Red Rock Canyon to eliminate them once and for all. A "Red Rock" Massacre would probably have saved the residents of Vault 3 and Freeside residents from the Fiend scourge by strangling the flow of illegal chems into the area.

the massacre was caused by poor intel and the CO of the NCR freezing up when he relized that there were women and children in there, also the NCR is filled with not-bad people while as a group they have problems the people like Knight and whats-his-name in Forlorn Hope are ok (Forlorn Hope referes to sieges the forlorn hope was the first wave)

I agree Endeminion ... the strengths and foibles of the NCR are pretty true to real life. But my character from the 'red beret incident' was a stretch of a chaotic character capable of random good or random evil without giving either much thought before hand. It made for an interesting and wildly gyrating game.
So basically Chaotic Stupid?
baumgartner Aug 28, 2016 @ 12:28pm
Yeah Dosbilliam, Human Dictionry - Chaotic Stupid pretty much describes the PC through most of the 40 chapters it took to reach a conclusion. Still it was an interesting game that led to no ending of the main story arcs other than the demise of Ulysses in The Lonesome Road DLC and the PC leaving the Mojave free of additional nuclear destructon. That ending when he exits the wreckage canyon wearing Ulysses' duster to return to the Pacific Northwest, possibly with Cass 'The Rose of Sharon' Cassidy, and leaving Lady Luck to settle things was actually pretty darn satisfying even if it lacked the play by play wrap ups of Chris Avellone's official story arc conclusions for the major factions.
