.... which if you do he'll try to kill you eventually.
I'm sorry you don't remember it. HE certainly does.
Are you talking about dean or ulysses?
1) attempt any barter checks with him. If you do, pass or fail, he'll betray you later. During the first meeting, you can attempt one, and this is where most people seal their fate.
2) talk down to him. Easy to avoid, because most of your conversation options are fairly neutral comments, or simply questions about the olden days.
3) boss him around too much.
The best approach is to pretend he's your partner in crime. Don't tell the crazy ghoul who's had a vendetta for the past 200 years things that will bruise his ego.
Ironically, he ends up being the most sympathetic and belieavable character in dead money. This is really strange, because he's more of a monster than the DLC's actual badguy. You're supposed to hate him, and it should be difficult to resist killing him, but that's not typically what most people end up thinking about him.
Most of it can be attributed to the voice actor. Barry Dennen is pretty great, but he's not very good at this whole badguy thing. Dean comes off as sounding and behaving far nicer than he should, and even though he's telling you that he masterminded this whole thing, and was the guy who put 'that bald woman' into the auto-doc to make her voice sound like Vera's, it all sounds more like he's telling another grand story of the olden day than giving a confession about what a terrible man he is, was, and always has been.
It's less the Barter checks and more the antagonizing remarks that usually come from them. I remember testing it one time and as long as the check doesn't sound like you thinking you're better than he is, it's fine. :P
I just check and realized that I barter with him in the first time because it doesn't sound bad to me...well, just skip it this time. And did not use [Black Widow] to tell him to stay at electric cord....dont know it effect or not but just use [Repair speech] instead.
I just encountered him again and he pretty excite to see me (with friendly mood) But I just saved the game before I pick up the key in front of the stage. He's safe now right ?
Okay. Now I gonna explore his conversation one by one.
Thanks again Highroller !
Absolutely agree.
He should be the bad guy but I thinks creator did very well to give him a small chances to save him from his Karma Result (Get killed). At least, to Letting Go and Begin Again for real.
Also I found DOG/GOD is interesting in term of Pure Philosophy, relationship between God (Reasonable mind) and DOG (Enslaved Greedy mind). These 2 personality are very deep for me. His dialogue reminds me many things about the human nature.
do all this, and when you are told to kill him in the casino he will be a LOT friendlier.
but the [barter] one when you meet him means he'll hate you in the end. don't use it.
the rest is obvious.
