Does anyone else just HATE The Boomers?
Doing a J.Sawyer playthrough and once again dealing with... *ugh*... The Boomers. I swear the more I have to interact with them in each subsequent playthrough the more I'm finding it difficult to refrain from committing mass murder... So why hate them?

1. Let's start with Pearl. Between her condescendingly calling you a child and then ironically admitting them sometimes using their howitzers for their entertainment. I know technically she's not using the term child to refer to immaturity but I digress.

2. The history child (can't remember his name) basically explains The Boomers' history stems from a bunch of cranky manchildren from a vault having tantrums because they weren't allowed to have their way and blow up high-yield explosives for fun. And then venturing out of the vault, killing anyone standing in their way (be it actual savages or otherwise) because they were just too trigger-happy.

3. Loyal for his jab at your intellect when you pass the speech check regarding the Ant-killing device. "You're not as stupid as you look."

4. Just the general layout of their quests. Having you run back and forth between their vast base and doing things they're too incompetent to do themselves or just refusing because of their isolationist ways.

5. Their future "vision" of repairing the bomber and destroying "savages" without explicitly detailing who they plan to bomb.

Well these are mostly the reasons I never feel any shred of regret when I start to give in to temptation. :)

As long as I can manipulate them into helping me they're fine in my book. Oh and guess what! That wasn't exactly hard to do. Shove a bunch of rockets down that watcher chick (whatever her name was, you know the one sitting on that little platform "watching" something in the middle of the base" and there ya go. Also I couldn't agree more about quest layout. All the dust you have to kick around just to navigate their base alone... In the end I guess they mostly look like a bunch of ignorant hipsters of the wasteland that just happened to get their hands on explosives. I do have to say that the hate I feel for them is rather refreshing. I don't hate them in a way that makes me wish they were removed from the game. I guess for the most part they just come off as annoying rather than "bad". I think we can both agree they're best described as ignorant. Very... very... ignorant.

Exactly. Can't complain about the loot you get once you wipe everyone out! :)

Oh and a little edit: I checked and Loyal didn't actually call you stupid, just said "You're smarter than you look", which I guess you could take a little personally but I guess is just nit-picking a little. Doesn't change my attitude though. :P

So they like to have fun, so what?

Nothing you listed is really notable of hating them. It's all nit-picking.

But... but... they call you hurtful names! :(

I don't know, it was kinda refreshing to find a society not out to prove/follow/impose some grand ideal or purpose. They're mostly just a bunch of folks sitting out of the way, minding their own business, and disposing of unwanted guests with ludicrous amounts of artillery. Of course, given most of their neighbors, that's an entirely reasonable approach.

I really like the Boomers, I find them friendly and they have a weird sense of humor

They're xenophobic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who like to play around casually with heavy artillery. Good to have as allies for the Battle of Hoover Dam, but if the game continued afterwards they would've been purged.

Given the folks around them, can you really blame them for a little xenophobia? Genocidal Legion, grasping expansionist NCR, psycho Fiends, bullying, drug-dealing Great Khans, tech-obsessed Brotherhood... I wouldn't be particularly happy to see them at my door either.

Ok ,here are some reasons:

1. They left vault 34. Have you seen vault 34? They likely caused what you see there on the way out.

2. They travelled and killed many savages. The only 'savages' in the area would be the New Vegas Tribes. However, their history does not mention Vegas at all. The mystery deepens.

3. They 'finally' found Nellis. Hell, you can just about SEE Nellis from vault 34.

4. Everyone, (except Raquel), wears the Army Air Force style jackets over their vault jumpsuits. They seem to denote some sort of secret internal 'rank'.

5. There has to be something more to the training pods.

6. ?

Ok, fair enough, but here's some good ♥♥♥♥ about them.
1. They don't put up with anybody's ♥♥♥♥, they just make them a burning skeleton in a crater. They don't even go out of their way to kill people, they just do what they think is defending themselves. Compare that to, say, the Legion, and they look holy.
2. They're the only organized people in the entire wasteland. The NCR is a mess, the Legion is a bunch of jocks with spears, and yet these vault lunatics who took over an abandoned airfield are about as organized as the robotic egomaniac who watches over the strip with robots.
3. They seem pretty content with how they're living. Once again, they're one of the only groups in the game that is self-sufficient. They can't be backstabbed because nobody is there to do the backstabbing.
4. They respect everybody who is a part of their group, which is more than can be said even of the proud soldiers in the NCR.
5. They're open to assisting in the fight for Hoover Dam despite their isolationist policies, which is pretty impressive. Recall how much persuasion the Enclave Remnants required to even step foot on the Dam.
6. They are the only people who want to harness flight for the sake of flying, not war - even though they are definitely open to using flight for war. There is plenty of dialogue to support this claim. They just like flying.

That's not exactly a fair comparison given the situation the Remnants were in. It's doubtful any of them would have survived the fallout of intervening at the Dam unless the player went Wild Card. There are very few people in the wastes that don't want them dead.

Fair enough. But the Remnants did it because they wanted to improve their image. Their image had already been tarnished, and they likely didn't have long to live given how old they are. They seem eager enough to fight at the dam and fix their image, but they still required immense persuasion. I still thought it was a bit weird just how difficult it was to get them all on board, though they certainly have a reason to stay in hiding.
