Ok so have you gone to Primm? Thats probbaby the first thing you should do. If you talk to Sunny Smiles in goodsprings she can show it on your map. Start walking there and closely watch the compass: Sometimes little triangles will pop up on there, that point to locations you havent discovered yet. New locations can offer loot such as weapons and armors, ammo, etc. But most importantly NPC's that give you quests. spend time exploring, leveling, looting, questing etc.

What robots? There aren't any in the main quest until much later.

Just start by following the clues to Primm, and south all the way around and back north to Vegas. The main quest goes that direction, and the game completely opens by the time you hit Vegas, and by then you'll be level 8-12.

Do the quests in Goodspring and explore the areas south of goodspring for xp and loot. I normally go for the prison and Primm after that, which should be easy enough with the weapons you get. Word of advise if you want to save some point on lockpicking and maybe science - you can use the console menu to click on locked objects and write unlock to unlock them sure it doesn't give exp that way, but it is a nice way to avoid putting points into something like lockpicking - I do go for science points tho. Also all the way to the south west there is a NCR station that also can give some good xp before moving on. Avoid deathclaws and maybe radscorpions if you don't have armor penetration or mines to deal with them.

While you're at it, just turn god mode on and you don't have to invest into any pesky skills like guns or anything else.

if you try to defend goodsprings: safe the game before the battle, just be a target for the bandits, but dont kill anyone! on this way you can still enter the powdergangers-base and do quest for them - or betray them

The entire game design is about missing quest paths due to choices you made earlier. Most players who play this type of rpg sees the content across multiple play throughs as was intended. It's literally impossible to see all the quest paths in one play through
