fallout new vegas 1 file failed to validate
it's in the title. i have uninstalled and reinstalled, ran as admin, i've troubleshooted, nothing works. the annoying thing is this game used to work when i first bought it on steam now it just wont respond like it will boot up perfectly but as soon as i hit new game or load game, it'll show a loading screen then just exit from the game. that's it. any other ideas? i've even added those bug mods from nexus mod manager but that didnt do squat.

That's perfectly normal, it happens all the time. As for it crashing, try rolling your video drivers back to an earlier version. There's been a problem with these games ever since the Windows 10 Anniversary update. If you're using an Nvidia card, you need to use the 368.81 driver release. I'm not sure about AMD, but 16.9.2 has been reported to cause the problem as well.

One file is supposed to fail to validate by design, it's not the cause of your problem.

Like many others, you're probably crashing because of recent GPU driver updates. You need to revert to a pre 370 version if you're using an Nvidia card. Don't know the specific version for AMD cards. Read Belanos' post for specifics.

Go to the Nvidia or AMD web site and look for their driver section. Then download the driver you want and install it manually.

As for why it's happening, the Windows 10 Anniversary update changed one of the software protocols used by video cards, and any driver version that has the change added to it can cause the crashes.

I'm having the same problem, any idea if there's any workaround if I don't want to downgrade my drivers?
