Guns 20 (-) ....what does that mean?
for my 9mm pistol it says
DPS 32
STR 2
WG 1.50
VAL 60
can I use this pistol to kill things or am i to weak?
I want to like this game but if I cant kill anything its not good
Fallout 4 is a traditional shooter. You point and click. New Vegas is an RPG. Your shots are affected by many dicerolls that happen behind the scenes. It's improved from 3 in that your shots will pretty much be accurate when iron-sighting.
For your pistol, your DPS is how much damage this weapon can deal per second firing at maximum speed and hitting every shot. STR is the minimum Strength SPECIAL skill that you'll need. You must meet this requirement to use the weapon. WG is its weight. VAL is its value. The 9mm is a very weak pistol, and it will be even weaker if it's damaged. Which brings me to...
Repair. You'll need to repair your weapons. If they're in bad shape (indicated by a item condition bar), they'll do less damage and be less accurate. Make sure you keep your weapons in good repair or they'll be worse-off.
Accuracy is also dependant on your Perception SPECIAL skill. Your accuracy will be lower if you have low Perception.
You can use it, but it's a very weak weapon that you should work towards replacing as one of your first priorities.
You can kill pretty much everything, but you have to put some thought into your gear and attributes if you want to be effective at doing so.
Commando - 2 handed guns (rifles and such) have better chance to hit in vats
Gunslinger - 1 handed guns (Pistols and smgs) have a better chance to hit
Sniper - headshots are easier and more likly to land in vats
center mass - do extra damage and have higher chance to land torso shots in vats
Hobbler - shots to the legs have a better chance of landing
If your using a sniper rifle (308 hunting rifle, Varmit rifle, 50 cal anti-material rifle) with bothe commando and sniper makes for some awsome vats kills in sneak.
Whoops! I see was was wrong about the damage threshold thing. Been too long since I've played the game. Sorry, folks.
