Any way to unfreeze setav carryweight? [SOLVED]
2022 UPDATE:
This post keeps getting bumped, so it must be visible somewhere. It's very old and the current solution to this is as I explained in a recent comment below:
...the modding community have made significant progress on simple things like this, notably in the form of NVSE plug-ins. Install JohnnyGuitar NVSE properly, along with things like the latest xNVSE, JIP LN, and so forth, and you will have access to many more helpful commands in the console.

In this case, JohnnyGuitar NVSE provides the UnsetAV command:
https://geckwiki.com/index.php?title=UnsetAV

Here's a list we keep up to date, of every command in the game. Make sure you have whatever plug-in adds a command before using it, if applicable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--OLD STUFF BELOW--

EDIT: I used a setav console command instead of a modav command, and saved, not knowing this could cause problems. Ladez here has saved me with this link:
nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/5122

Use the console command
player.getavinfo STATyouWISHtoRESET
and you'll see a bunch of information. If you are having my problem, you will see an entry for SetAV Override after the entries that derive the base stat. That override is what we wish to remove. Note that mods can sometimes use setav as well despite the fact that it is generally discouraged because it can cause these types of problems, so ModAV is better. Point is, if you've modded but not used setav in the console, this may still be what you need to fix the problem of a 'frozen' stat or skill.

From said link:

- 0: In the console, type 'player.setav (derived stat here) 7895160' example: player.setav CarryWeight 7895160
- 1: Back up your save game
- 2: Obtain a hex exitor (I use XVI32) and open your savegame
- 3: Search for 'F0 F0 F0'
- 4: You will know you are in the right spot when you see something that looks like '0d 7C F0 F0 F0 4a 7c' or something similar
- 5: The 0d is the flag for the override. Change it to 00.
- 6: Save game, reload in Fallout 3

I used the same hex editor recommended in the link, and I loaded the .fos save file and edited that. There may be a .nvse file with your save's name, but I didn't see the value there and it worked without editing that file.

Note that the above example was conveniently for carry weight, which was the value I needed to reset myself, but for other stats you'll need to find not 0d but the hex value that corresponds to it. Here is a link that other people have used to find the hex value for the skill they needed to remove the SetAV Override from:
http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Hex_values_of_effects

To confirm it's worked, use the getavinfo command again. In my case, the SetAV Override entry was totally removed, not even a 00 value, just gone.

Original post:
Long story short, I used a bunch of console commands to get an item I'd forgotten to get when I'd had the chance (died a bunch of times and on the save I finally kept it seems I'd neglected to grab it), so after using these commands I went on for several days with no trouble and have long since passed the point of reloading an older save to fix this.

Anyway, problem is that I used
player.setav carryweight 5000
whilst retrieving the item and once finished,
player.setav carryweight 230
to put it back where it had been.

Well, seems that now Strength won't raise the stat and starvation penalties have no effect. It appears that setav freezes the base stat. There must be a way to unfreeze it but I can't find it.

Yep, SetAV is definitely the wrong command for that. I'm not sure of a way to revert it.

In the future, use ModAV to add a positive or negative modifier to any actor value instead. This doesn't freeze the actor value or change the base vallue, making it easy to revert the change.

Unfortunately, I realise that now.
Any chance you know of an editable file where this stuff is stored? It seems pretty much impossible that they didn't include a way to unfreeze setav or forceav. No way to revert it is one thing, but no way to unfreeze it? Kind of weird for a debugging tool. I've read that modav leaves a + or - sign by the value as well, so it's unlikely that that's the only way, either. Thanks for your help.
Ladez Oct 16, 2016 @ 5:41pm
Pretty sure modAV doesn't do that, that happens from effects.

As for reverting it, I think I've done it once, but I don't remember what combination of commands it required. Maybe setting it back to the base value, without STR boosting, would help.

If you use
player.getavinfo carryweight
you get a good bit of information, one line of which is called 'setAV override'. It even remembers that. But I can't seem to find a way to remove that.

try 'forceAV'
Vassago Rain Oct 16, 2016 @ 7:59pm
forceav makes it worse.

Set alters calculations. Mod adds, but obeys rules and limits imposed by systems. Force simply places a value, ignoring calculations and effects.

That has a reputation for mucking up everything but I tried it anyway. Didn't work, though.

If you used force, then your save's ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Didn't save it with forceav but I did experiment a bit, to no avail. My save is after a setav. But the game is aware there's a 'setav override' so how is it possible that there isn't a command to remove it?

Em, as I have a couple of people here that seem to play New Vegas a lot, has anyone had a glitch where they turn invisible at times? Think I'm a bit more concerned about this one than the carry weight thing. This happens a lot in Old World Blues but not only there, and it's only when in third-person, but even enemies can turn invisible at times. It seems to be when you cross a certain line in certain rooms and I think it may depend on the time of day, though as long as the conditions are met it will happen consistently. Happens frequently in The Sink. I do have mods, but I've been testing turning them off and haven't fixed the problem.

These instructions are for Fallout 3, but it's worth a try.

Wow, thanks, mate! I'm fairly sure this will work. Will report back.
E.P.D. Gaffney Oct 17, 2016 @ 9:54am
Ladez, you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ genius, you! It worked! Oh, thanks a million, you magnificent stranger, haha. It really worked. I kind of knew it would but there was always some gnawing doubt in the back of my head, until it did actually work. God, that's amazing. Thanks again.

But now why the devil am I turning invisible...
Ladez Oct 17, 2016 @ 10:02am
I had my doubts as well, it's entirely possible that there are differences in the save format between the games. Good to know that this works, though.

As for your invisibility, I really have no clue. Never experienced or even heard of that.
Clever Monkey Oct 17, 2016 @ 10:11am
I wanted some proof before I posted but my suspicions seem to be accurate. look at the comments of

Interior Lighting Overhaul

by going to the posts and clicking view forum thread and searching in this topic "Invisible" you will see it is an issue with this mod. no fix was given and the only siolution was person found was by removing the mod everything was fine.
